Tom Cruise has been touted as “the biggest movie star on the planet” for over 30 years. A lot of his star appeal has to do with his equal sex appeal, with his good looks complemented by a brilliant smile.
In an interview with Playboy Magazine in 2016, Tom Cruise said he has not had plastic surgery. He went further to state that he would never go under the knife for a cosmetic procedure.
Some time has passed since that interview and it is as a result of obvious changes in Tom Cruise’s appearance that people have speculated that he has indeed had some work done.
The Sex Symbol
Tom Cruise has been the playboy heartthrob of Hollywood for decades. His movie roles in ‘Risky Business’, ‘Cocktail’ and cult classic, ‘Top Gun’ cemented his star appeal in Hollywood among his legion of fans.
In addition to his sex symbol status on movie screens, he was also crowned People Magazine’s sexiest man alive in 1990. People noted Tom’s “killer grin and eyes to sigh for” and a sure hitmaker who had only to show up to guarantee the success of any movie project.
His always perfectly styled hair, bright smile, and physically fit body have ensured his long term appeal among his fans.
In intervening years since Tom Cruise stated that he has never had plastic surgery, nor would he ever undergo the procedure, the megastar has appeared in public displaying some signs that he has made some changes to his appearance.
Speculation On Work Done
Known for doing his own stunts, to the horror of stunt coordinators, insurance companies, and production companies alike, Tom Cruise has had several mishaps and broken bones during the filming of his movies.
None of the reported incidents on set have involved anything to do with his face, so, reportedly, no facial surgeries were necessary as a result.
Among the improvements that Tom Cruise has supposedly made to his face, are Botox treatments and “several nose jobs”.
At an appearance as a presenter at the 2016 BAFTAs, Tom was said to have appeared to look puffy and swollen; giving rise to speculation that he was fresh off a trip to get some Botox injections at the time.
He is also said to have had some kind of fillers in his face.
His friend and one-time co-star Cuba Gooding Jr. reportedly told Andy Cohen on his show ‘Watch What Happens Live’, that while he can’t confirm for sure what Tom has done he definitely has done something to his face.
Good Genes?
Some men who are the same age as Tom Cruise and wonder whether it is possible to achieve his look – rockhard abs, glowing skin, few visible wrinkles.
Doctors have advised them that the main difference between them and Tom Cruise, is access to resources which are not available to regular people.
Tom benefits from lifestyle amenities, skincare, and the best foods money can buy. In their opinion, if one is willing to invest the money and effort required, then this looks is also achievable.
Genetics also plays a role in how the body ages and the kind of effort needed to maintain a youthful appearance.
Addressing The Rumors
Despite its seeming popularity in Hollywood, plastic surgery still seems to be a taboo subject.
Other than that interview with Playboy Magazine in 2005 where Tom Cruise outright denied getting plastic surgery, he has made no further public statements on the topic.
In the same interview, he outlined how he deals with rumors, indicating that there is no need to ever address them.
According to Tom, the important things in life are his approach to work, his passion for what he is doing, and how he lives his life. Everything else he sees hears but does not absorb, as his life is not about trying to prove anything to anyone.
Waiting around to hear whether Tom Cruise will speak on whether he has had plastic surgery might not be an efficient use of time. By his words, it’s just not that important to talk about.
