Not only is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson one of Hollywood’s most universally adored celebs, but, due to his incredible size and physique, he’s also one of the industry’s most instantly recognizable stars. As a retired professional wrestler, many of Johnson’s roles, such as ‘Baywatch’, ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’, and ‘Pain and Gain’, play with the actor’s history in the ring.
While the actor’s daily calorie intake varies, it is understood that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson more or less consumes anywhere between 4,000 and 6,000 calories per day. Well over the recommended daily average for men, in layman’s terms, The Rock is essentially a calorie munching machine.
In light of the ‘Fast and Furious’ actor’s diet revelations, one media site likened Johnson’s eating habits to that of a grizzly bear preparing for hibernation. The diet – met with shock and awe from his fans – includes delicacies such as 36 ounces of cod, 6 cups of white rice, 2 salads, and a 10 egg omelet, and that’s not even enough to get Johnson through a whole day!
The Legendary Diet
For the sake of clarity, Johnson revealed that during his preparations for the role of Hercules, he consumed around 7 protein-rich meals every day, amounting to a total of 4,131 calories. And, in a later interview, Johnson also mentioned that during cheat days, he could eat as many as 6,000 calories worth of burgers, fries, sushi, desserts, and generally anything else he could ever possibly desire.
The Rock is 6’5” and is believed to weigh around 270 pounds. Generally speaking, his colossal physique is a big part of his identity as an actor and media personality, and his diet and lifestyle is a crucial part of maintaining that aspect of his brand image and professional career.
In terms of the star’s diet, when necessity demands it, Johnson is said to consume around 7 meals per day. In addition to the portions of protein and carbs that are mentioned above, Johnson is also said to be partial to an 8-ounce steak and a few potatoes on the side – 24 ounces of potatoes to be exact.
Of course, such generous portions need to be washed down in the appropriate way. In order to keep things running smoothly, The Rock often drinks 32 ounces of Gatorade – delicious.
One report on Johnson’s calorie intake worked out the ins and outs of the actor’s diet and estimated that in one year, The Rock consumes more than one-third of a ton of cod.
Another report calculated the number of calories consumed by Johnson during a single sitting of sushi and cookies (seen in various Instagram posts) and came to the conclusion that the star had taken in an astonishing 7,764 calories.
To burn that off, it was also suggested that any individual would have to do burpees for 14 hours straight.
Ultimately, it’s no surprise that The Rock has such a bestial, otherworldly appetite, I mean, have you seen the guy?
Is it unsustainable? Unhealthy? Unethical? Who’s to say, really. But if you want to star in a remake of ‘Baywatch’, here’s how to bulk up and get in shape apparently…
How Did The Rock Become Famous?
With a net worth of around $320 million and a filmography that is up there with some of Hollywood’s most high-profile names, it’s sometimes hard to believe that Johnson wasn’t actively pursuing an acting career from a young age. To put his achievements in perspective, his films have grossed over $10.5 billion worldwide.
Prior to his theatrical turn, Johnson was a professional wrestler and American football player. The story goes that, once dreaming of becoming an NFL legend, Johnson didn’t make the cut and instead sought out a sport where he could utilize his iconic physical attributes.
Johnson spent over 15 years in professional wrestling and went by various ring names such as The Rock, Flex Kavana, and Rocky Maivia. Yet, The Rock’s WWF career wasn’t just a stepping stone to something greater, the California-born star is generally considered to be one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.
In 2002, six years after the dawn of his wrestling career, Johnson dipped his toes into big-screen entertainment and starred in ‘Scorpion King’. A spin-off from The Mummy franchise, the movie highlighted Johnson’s aptitude for high-octane action filmmaking.
Following the commercial success of the film, Johnson’s mind was made up and the actor gradually went from strength-to-strength, landing a number of big roles.
Dwayne Johnson Always Lands on His Feet
Ultimately, the moral of the story here is that if you can’t achieve your childhood dream, simply pretend to beat up enough people and consume enough calories, and, soon enough, you’ll land an even better gig.
