It is often discussed that people who are left handed are more creative because the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body and is the creative center. The British vocalist, Adele Adkins, is creative with her music; does this mean the Sweetest Devotion singer is left-handed?
No, Adele is not left-handed. The easiest way to tell this is by looking at photographs of her signing autographs for fans. In these photos she is clearly writing with her right hand. Just because she isn’t left handed doesn’t mean Adele is any less creative than other singers.

Left Brain Versus Right Brain
For a long time now, it has been widely accepted that the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body. This would mean that the hand you write with indicates whether the right hemisphere or left hemisphere of the brain is more dominant.
According to the website Brain Made Simple, the left side of the brain “is the more academic and logical side of the brain.” The same site also says the right side of the brain “is the more artistic and creative side of the brain.” These facts have led a lot to conclude that if you are left-handed you are more creative.
In a 2019 Psychology Today article, the conclusion of a Dutch study was examined. The conclusion was that “There was no difference between left-handers and right-handers regarding the actual amount of time spent on artistic activities.” So although the rumor is that lefties are more creative, there is no scientific fact to back up the claim.
Further to all of this, there are more and more scientific journals coming out that debunk the whole left-brain and right-brain idea. Our brains are a lot more complicated than that explains the NPR article by Tania Lombrozo titled The Truth About The Left Brain/Right Brain Relationship.
Left-Handed Celebrities
Adele may not be left-handed, but there are tons of other UK celebrities who are. Take for example Irish singer and former member of One Direction, Niall Horan. One of Great Britain’s most prolific actresses, Emma Thompson, is left-handed. So is the former member of The Beatles, Sir Paul McCartney.
Famed singer David Bowie, who was born in the city of Brixton where Adele lived for a few years, is himself left-handed. So would be the man famous for playing James Bond in the nineties, Pierce Brosnan. And you can’t forget the writer of the popular children’s novel Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Caroll.
Finally, as this Yahoo! article points out, there are a few members of the royal family who are left-handed. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, is a southpaw and there are rumors that his son Prince Geroge also has this trait. It is also speculated that Queen Victoria was a leftie. This is because she painted with her left hand. In the Victorian Era, it was common practice for left-handers to be forced to learn to write with their right hand. The left hand was associated with black magic and satanism.
Does Being Right Handed Matter In the Case of Adele?
While Adele may not be left-handed like all of the other people listed above, that doesn’t appear to have had any affect on her creative abilities. After all, she has three albums out with another due in September 2020. Along with that the prolific singer has broken many records and won over 140 different awards and accolades. It’s clear that it really doesn’t matter what side of the brain is more dominant when it comes to Adele.
