Arnold Schwarzenegger has always been very vocal about his right-wing politics, but could he be a leftie in some other regard? Is a famous action hero and the former Governor of California one of many Hollywood stars who happen to be left-handed?
No, Arnold Schwarzenegger is not left-handed. Judging by the countless photos that show him signing autographs, the Terminator star uses his right hand to write and he’s done so since his youth.
Schwarzenegger may not be left-handed, but he still knows many people who are, including several members of the Hollywood elite.
Not a Leftie
Arnold Schwarzenegger is not a leftie in any sense of the word. You can find countless photos and videos of the actor signing autographs on request of his adoring fan, and he can be seen holding a pan in his right hand in every single one of them.
Arnie is also a righty when it comes to his political views. He’s a prominent member of the right-wing Republican Party, and has been supporting it ever since moving to the US in 1968. He decided to join after hearing Richard Nixon’s impassioned speech about “getting the government off your back, lowering the taxes and strengthening the military”. He even ran for Governor of California as a Republican candidate, and served for two terms after being elected.
Arnie’s Handwriting
When you’re a famous actor, signing autographs on a daily basis comes with a job. Adoring fans prefer taking selfies with their favorite stars these days, but Arnold Schwarzenegger has been in the spotlight for decades, so he’s used to both.
Autographs are less invasive than selfies, anyway, but Stephen Schoche’s book Hollywood Stories suggests that Arnie wasn’t always the biggest fan of signing them. According to the author, after a reporter once asked him to sign an autograph for his mother, he replied by saying “Of course. I wouldn’t want to disappoint your mother. I’m sure you have disappointed her enough already.”
Autographs, however, aren’t the only piece of handwriting that Schwarzenegger shared with his admirers in the past. One time he did a Reddit AMA session, and surprised fans by sending them handwritten notes instead of regular replies – some of which even featured adorable drawings of the Reddit alien icons.
One of the fans shared a story about fighting non Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of twelve, and explained that Arnie’s movies inspired him to get through it, saying “I saw you as the chemo and the bad guys in the movies as the cancer.” The Terminator star was touched by the story and replied by sending a handwritten note that said, “Thank you for that note. I am glad I could help, but you seem brave enough on your own. Good luck with everything.”
Left-Handed Friends
Arnold Schwarzenegger may not be left-handed, but he knows several people who are. The first person who comes to mind is James Cameron, because Arnie pretty much owes his career to the visionary director. The three-time Oscar winning filmmaker gave Schwarzenegger his breakout role in The Terminator – and the rest is history!
The actor went to appear in his movies Terminator 2: Judgment Day and True Lies. Schwarzenegger later recalled that he and Cameron clicked right away, since they shared a passion for knives and motorcycles. Famous filmmaker even gave him the Harley Davidson from Terminator 2 as a birthday gift and they stayed good friends.
Bruce Willis is another famous lefty who had the pleasure of working with Schwarzenegger. Two actors had similar career trajectory, because they both became huge action stars during the ‘80s – Willis with Die Hard, Schwarzenegger with The Terminator. They went on to appear together in The Expendables franchise, alongside several other actors known for starring in action blockbusters, including Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham.
