Despite approximately only 10% of the US population considering themselves to be left-handed, a surprising number of celebrities possess this trait. Is Ashton Kutcher left-handed?
Ashton Kutcher appears to be right-handed. He has been included in lists of left-handed celebrities but all the evidence supports him being right-handed instead. This is clearly visible when he is seen signing autographs with his right hand or in photographs of him holding objects such as his cellphone and props in movies.
For further exploration of Ashton Kutcher’s handedness and the evidence strongly suggesting he is right-handed, read on.
Left-Handed Rumors
It isn’t always clear where rumors begin that a celebrity is left-handed. All it takes is for one writer to include somebody in a list of left-handed celebrities online to fill space. The story soon spreads, with numerous other writers referencing the original article as a source.
Studies estimate the current percentage of left-handed people living in the United States as somewhere in the region of 10%. Despite this relatively small number, many well-known celebrities are left-handed.
So is Ashton Kutcher one of the minorities or just another celebrity included on left-handed lists for no good reason? From what we’ve seen, he’s one of the latter.
Despite our best attempts, we can’t find any strong evidence to suggest that Kutcher is a southpaw. It seems strongly unlikely that he is left-handed but just happens to be using his right almost every time he is photographed.
Kutcher’s True Hand
In contrast, there is a great deal of evidence that suggests Kutcher is right-handed.
One of the most straightforward ways of determining a celebrity’s handedness is to look at videos or photos of them signing autographs. Fortunately, examples of Kutcher doing this are plentiful.
Photographs of Kutcher signing autographs all seem to tell the same story: that he uses his right hand to write. Even if somebody could find an example of Kutcher signing with his left hand, it’s possible that some celebrities learn to sign their autograph with both hands to give their dominant hand a break during lengthy autographing sessions.
The evidence is heavily weighted towards Kutcher being right-handed, so we can only assume that he is.
Another way of assessing a celebrity’s favored hand is in how they hold objects. Photos of Kutcher holding a cellphone show him grasping it with his right hand.
While it’s possible that he holds his smartphone in his right hand and operates it with his left, making his left hand the dominant one, it seems unlikely, especially as there are photos of him holding and operating the phone with one hand, his right.
Another strong clue is when we see Kutcher handling prop weapons in movie roles. The 2010 film “Killers”, in which his character, Spencer, discovers that his neighbors are contract killers hired to assassinate him, sees Kutcher using firearms.
Kutcher holds a shotgun with his right hand and supports it with his left, again indicating that he is right-handed. Guns aren’t always the strongest indication of whether or not somebody is left-handed, as it can sometimes be a simple case of the production only having access to right-handed guns.
Given the frequency with which Kutcher wields guns right-handed in the film, however, all the evidence points to him being right-handed.
Handedness is ultimately a difficult thing to determine without a statement from the celebrity themselves, as there are examples of people being ambidextrous or using different hands for various tasks.
From what we’ve seen of Ashton Kutcher, however, there is no evidence to support him being left-handed and a great deal that indicates he is right-handed.
