Though Jason Momoa has never come out and directly said he is right handed, there are many videos and pictures of him signing autographs with his right hand. Similarly, in his various movie or television roles, he uses his right hand to complete actions.
One notable film where he frequently uses his right hand is Aquaman. In the film, Momoa’s character Aquaman, is the son of the queen of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis.
In the film, Aquaman has to fight and he does so with a trident. A trident is a magical weapon, typically associated with the water-god Poseidon.
Whenever Jason Momoa is holding or throwing the trident in the film, he is holding it with his right hand. Using the weapon requires precision, so he must use his dominant hand to do it.
Momoa was actually trained to use the trident by a stunt coordinator. In the movie it has magical powers like being able to create whirlpools, but it can also be used for actual combat.
Aquaman was not the only time Momoa had weapon training for a role. The role that first made him famous, Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, also featured a weapon.
In the television series, Momoa’s character wields a type of sword called an Arakh. Momoa had to learn how to wield it for his fight scenes and did so with his right hand.
Left Handed Celebrities
Though Momoa may not be left handed, he knows many people who are. Only 10% of the world’s population is left handed and this may seem like a small amount, but it is still seven hundred and forty million people.
One of Jason Momoa’s co-stars in Aquaman, Nicole Kidman, is left handed. Nicole Kidman plays Momoa’s long lost mother in the film and he says that he was scared of her before filming.
He was scared because of her talent. He goes on to say, “I’ve never worked with anyone that came close to an Academy Award. She was just this amazing woman and one of the greatest acting experiences I’ve ever had.”
Nicole Kidman’s acting skills extend into changing her dominant hand for a role. In the movie, The Hours, Nicole plays an author Virginia Woolf who was right handed.
For the film, Nicole Kidman learned to write with her right hand despite never doing so before as a left handed person.
Another left handed actor that Jason Momoa has worked with is Ray Fisher. Ray Fisher had a role in the DC superhero film Batman Versus Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. Momoa was also in the film.
Fisher played the superhero Victor Stone also known as Cyborg. Momoa played the superhero Aquaman.
Momoa’s Left Arm
Though Momoa is not left handed, he does have his most prominent tattoo on his left forearm. The tattoo represents his Hawaiian heritage.
It is a representation of his family’s Aumakua, a shark. An Aumakua is an ancestral guardian that is said to protect a family.
Momoa’s tattoo is made up of small triangles, to represent shark teeth. Momoa says about it. “It’s supposed to take the darkness out of your heart and bring the light in.”
