The couple went through an amicable divorce, jointly filing the necessary papers and seeking joint custody of their three children. The divorce was finalized in 2018, although they had been separated since 2015.
They made the joint statement:
After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. Jennifer was stalked by a man called Steven Richard Burky who was constantly showing up to her house. It started back in 2002, but continued until 2009.
At one point Burky told Jennifer that, “God had sent him a vision of her being persecuted in a manner that may result in her death.”
Burky was given a restraining order in 2008 after Jennifer told a judge she feared for her own and her family’s lives. She told the judge that the man had recently become more and more threatening.
