Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood today, because of her acting talent but also because of her genuine relatability to her audience and fans. Is Lawrence vegan, or does she have any other particular restrictions on food?
It’s thought that Jennifer Lawrence is not vegan, and she does not follow any other diets. Her eating habits are part of what makes her so relatable to many of her fans, as she eats whatever she wants.
Read more below to find out about Lawrence’s eating habits, a few of her best food moments, and her thoughts on the dietary expectations particularly for women in Hollywood.
Lawrence’s Diet
Jennifer Lawrence follows a diet… in which she has no diet. While she had dieted for some roles, like to play Dominika Egorova in the spy thriller Red Sparrow, the actress doesn’t like to restrict any foods.
In an era where junk food is condemned, especially for Hollywood actresses, Lawrence is a breath of fresh air with her outspoken affinity for pizza, McDonald’s, and everything else with carbs and a little bit of grease. Unlike many stars, she’s also ready and willing to talk about it, like the spaghetti chili pizza sandwich that she created, talked about in this post.
At the Oscars in 2013, Lawrence pleasantly surprised her interviewers with her candor, talking about how she had forgotten to eat and had stopped at a nearby McDonald’s to tide her over. “I’m seeing you talk and all I’m seeing is me being pissed that I didn’t get enough fries,” she said in a humorous and blunt moment.
The Oscars seem to be where most of Lawrence’s food moments take place, as the next year in 2014 Ellen DeGeneres gave pizza to the stars as a joke. Lawrence was the most excited about it, and while many stars reportedly laughed but did not partake, she took some to eat.
Many were worried about the state of her Oscar de la Renta ball gown, which she was dressed in for the event, but she seemed to have gotten away with the pizza without any mishaps. One of her dresses for American Hustle, though, was not so lucky.
While snacking on Doritos, Lawrence accidentally got some of the chip dust on the costume, so they couldn’t use it while filming. They did, thankfully, have extras with them, and as Michael Wilkinson, the movie’s costume designer, said, “[S]he’s not against eating Doritos and snack food in her costume, so we’re glad that we had a couple.”

Anti-Diet Advocacy
Many fans love both her lack of diet and how outspoken she is against body standards for women in Hollywood. In this Twitter post, one fan quoted Lawrence joking in an interview when she said, “I’m anti-vegan, anti-gluten free. I just ate spaghetti and meatballs before this interview.”
Lawrence isn’t actually anti-vegan and anti-gluten free, but she is against the dietary expectations that people put on women and is for people eating whatever makes them happy. While others may want to eat vegan or gluten-free for many different reasons, eating vegan or not being able to eat carbs is not something that she wants to maintain.
At one time, Lawrence was told that she would have to lose weight to be able to play a role. “They brought in pictures of me where I was basically naked, and told me to use them as motivation for my diet… It was just the kind of s— that actresses have to go through… Somebody told me I was fat, that I was going to get fired if I didn’t lose a certain amount of weight,” she explained.
So while she’s not against eating healthy, she’s against forced dieting to lose weight and the dieting expectations in Hollywood.
