Miley Cyrus is very committed to her diet, but is the Mother’s Daughter singer vegan?
Miley Cyrus has been completely vegan ever since the death of her beloved dog in 2014. Even before that, she was an avid animal lover. Now, she speaks out openly about animal rights and is also a passionate promoter of veganism.
Read on to learn more about Miley’s commitment to her vegan lifestyle!
Miley Is Committed to Her Health
Miley Cyrus has been in the news for many reasons. She is famous for playing Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel show of the same name; in fact, she was one of the channel’s biggest teen stars.
She then made headlines for Bangerz and the music that followed. All in all, people know Miley for unapologetic passion as much as her musical talent – and this passion extends to speaking out about veganism and animal rights.
Miley’s diet has been fully vegan since 2014 and gluten-free since 2012 – both help with her gluten and lactose intolerance; so she is vegan for both health and ethical reasons. Additionally, Miley practices Pilates and Ashtanga yoga as a part of her everyday workout regime.
After Miley’s dog died in 2014, she vowed to stop eating animals. She then announced her full conversion to veganism to her millions of social media fans by saying, “So many good plants/fruits/ veggies to eat. You ain’t gotta eat dead animals!”
Animal rights group PETA went so far as to call her “the Veganest Vegan to Ever Vegan”!
Miley’s Wedding to Liam Hemsworth was Vegan
When Miley married fellow vegan Liam Hemsworth, the food served at their wedding reception was a vegan feast! The two of them first got engaged in 2012 but broke up the following year.
After rekindling their relationship in 2016, Miley married Liam in a private wedding ceremony in their Nashville, Tennessee home.
The main chef at the pair’s wedding spoke anonymously about the menu they prepared for the reception. “I made vegan truffle mac and cheese, vegan fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, barbecue baked beans, chicken buffalo, egg rolls, Caesar salad, a crudités platter, homemade corn muffins and biscuits with apple butter. Dessert was vegan banana pudding and vegan vanilla cupcakes.”
Liam has also been a vegan for years. He once told Men’s Fitness: “After all the information I gathered about the mistreatment of animals, I couldn’t continue to eat meat. The more I was aware of, the harder and harder it was to do.”
Unfortunately, Miley and Liam separated in 2019, and soon after filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences”. The divorce was finalized and announced in January 2020.
Miley is also an Animal Rights Activist
Miley has often earned praise for her efforts for animal rights. The Animal Rights National Conference has awarded her the ‘Celebrity Advocate Award,’ which is given out to celebrities that use their influence to strengthen the animal rights movement.
Miley is an activist; she works for animals and also for marginalized people through the Happy Hippie Foundation.
Miley believes that being a vegan extends to more than just food; it extends to fashion as well.
She always makes a point of wearing cruelty-free fashion and has worked with major ethical industry names to do so, such as Stella McCartney, of whom she’s said, “We went to the Met Ball together to use that platform to encourage cruelty-free fashion.”
Her gown by McCartney was complemented with custom vegan pumps from the cruelty-free shoe brand MINK.
Speaking more about ethical fashion, Miley has said, “I’m here, so excited to be a part of this because I think this moment can be about so many different things and for me, I want to bring a message, which is veganism and that there doesn’t have to be torture in fabulous fashion.”
Miley has tried her hand at vegan design as well. In 2018, she collaborated with the sneaker brand Converse to create a cruelty-free fashion line of her own. Miley designed everything in the line herself and made sure that animal products were completely absent.
With her second vegan collection at Converse, Miley took things a step further and announced that all proceeds from the collection would go to her Happy Hippie Foundation – as well as to other organizations that help LGBTQ+ youth.
Miley spoke to Vanity Fair about these efforts, saying, “Choosing to live as a sustainable vegan activist means wearing more vintage (less waste; loving pieces for longer), playing with the newest eco-materials and technology, and making custom vegan pieces with some of my favorite designers.”
