Who is Sandra Bullock?
Sandra Bullock was born in 1964 in Washington DC. Both her mother and father worked in the entertainment industry, with her mother a professional singer, and her father a voice coach.
Bullock was not stereotypically girly growing up, explaining “There were so many boys in our neighborhood and I didn’t want to be left out of the games, so I took up every sport I could.”
“I was a deadly skateboarder,” she recalls.
She went on to study drama at East Carolina University and before she began getting acting roles, she worked at an ice-cream parlor.
As an adult, Bullock has been romantically linked to several high profile individuals. In 2005, she married Jesse James, though the two divorced in 2010 when James admitted that he had cheated on her.
Bullock is a mother to two adopted children, Louis and Laila. “I can tell you absolutely,” she says, “The exact right children came to me at the exact right time.”
She admits that there are challenges in being a high profile actress and a mother, including balancing time and maintaining the children’s privacy, but she retains a positive outlook. “All I can do now is enjoy exactly where I am and things will happen as they are supposed to.”
Sandra Bullock Movies
Bullock’s first acting positions were mostly small roles in independent films.
Her breakout role came with the movie ‘Speed’ where she starred alongside Keanu Reeves. The action movie tells the story of a police officer who is forced to ensure that a passenger bus stays above a certain speed to stop an explosion.
The movie, released in 1994, earned over $280 million in box office sales.
Soon, Bullock was one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood. In the early 2000s, she starred in several blockbusters including ‘Miss Congeniality’, ‘Two Weeks Notice’ and ‘28 Days’.
In 2010 she won her first Academy Award when she took home the Oscar for best actress for her role in ‘The Blind Side’.
She has been nominated for five Golden Globes, again winning the accolade for ‘The Blind Side’.
She was recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which she received on the same day that her movie ‘Miss Congeniality 2’ opened in theatres. “Now that I have this, I’m turning legit, so I thank you for that,” she joked.
Her later work includes ‘The Proposal’, ‘Birdbox’ and ‘All About Steve’. She has starred alongside many of Hollywood’s biggest faces, such as Hugh Grant, Ryan Reynolds, Thandie Newton, and Michael Douglas.
Being Left-Handed
Famous left-handers include Oprah Winfrey, Mark Wahlberg, Caitlyn Jenner, and former president Barack Obama, according to a list compiled by Elle.
The reasons for a person having a more dominant hand are argued. Some scientists believe that genetics have a part to play, however, it is widely believed that whether a person uses their left or right hand is caused by a combination of genetics and lifestyle.
Most people, around 90%, are right-handed. Left-handers are, therefore, relatively uncommon.
According to studies, a person’s skills can be impacted by the hand they use to write because people use the opposite part of their brain to the hand they write with. For example, a left-hander is likely to have skills associated with the right side of the brain.
Skills including emotional intelligence, language, creativity, and analytical thinking are thought to be controlled by different sides of the brain. A person’s more dominant hand can, therefore, give an idea of their strengths.
