She is British and she has an amazing voice, but was Adele part of the British pop group Spice Girls?
No, Adele was not a Spice Girl. However, the famous British singer is a huge fan of the pop group, Spice Girls. Having grown up in nineties London, it’s no surprise that Adele is a fangirl. She has attended their concerts, sang karaoke to their songs, and reportedly even had Victoria Beckham over for tea.
Scroll down to read more about just how big a fan Adele is of the pop group, Spice Girls, and some of the ways she has shown her love for them.
Who Are Spice Girls?
Spice Girls is a very famous pop group that came out of Great Britain in the nineties. The group was formed by Heart Management who held auditions for over 400 women before the group was narrowed down to five members. Those five members were Victoria Adams, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell, and Michelle Stephenson. Stephenson was booted from the group for not fitting in and was replaced by Emma Bunton. Each group member had her own nickname: Victoria was Posh Spice, Mel B was Scary Spice, Mel C was Sporty Spice, Geri was Ginger Spice, and Emma was Baby Spice.
The group created a demo, but were frustrated with the lack of support for Heart Management so they dropped the company, got new representation, and signed on to Virgin Records. They released two albums Spice and Spiceworld before Geri Halliwell decided to leave the group in 1998, shocking fans worldwide.
The remaining four members recorded one more album, Forever, released in 2000, before announcing a hiatus for the foreseeable future in 2001. The group reunited with all five members in 2007 and have toured on and off in the years since. Although their most recent reunion tour in 2019 was missing Victoria Adams, now Victoria Beckham, due to prior obligations.
Adele Is a Huge Spice Girls Fan
It is an anomaly to find a girl who grew up in the nineties and is not a Spice Girls fan. If they’re not a fan, they will still know the lyrics of at least five Spice Girls songs and will have definitely seen the movie Spice World at least once. That would all be due to the countless sleepovers where friends played the album Spice on repeat.
Every girl had a Spice Girl that she picked and that was who she played when pretending to be Spice Girls. This means that it does not come as even a slight surprise that Adele is a huge Spice Girls fan.
Adele famously sang the song Wannabe when on James Corden’s carpool karaoke. In the episode, like a true Spice Girls fan, she admits that she was always Geri. Maybe their shared hair color and fiery personalities had something to do with that.

Adele Attends the 2019 Show at Wembley Stadium
In 2019, Spice Girls were on tour again and they had a show at Wembley Stadium in London. A show that you can be certain Adele would have been hard pressed to miss out on.
In this Instagram post, Adele shared her thoughts on seeing the group, how much they’ve inspired her, and some pictures and videos to go along with it all. She commented that:
“Oiii last time I saw the Spice Girls at Wembley was 21 years ago! Tonight with my nearest and dearest I cried, laughed, screamed, danced, reminisced and fell back in love with my 10 year old self. It’s no secret how much I love them, how much they inspired me to run for my life and never look back.”
So, no, Adele definitely was not a part of Spice Girls. Nonetheless, it’s clear that the group has been one of the biggest influences on the Set Fire to the Rain singer’s life.
