She ain’t no “Hollaback Girl” — Gwen Stefani has built a longstanding career for herself in the music industry, from her time with “No Doubt” to her appearances on “The Voice.” Although she’s known for her voice, she’s definitely got a signature look as well.
Gwen Stefani loves Revlon makeup, which is easily available at most popular stores and Amazon. She’s the makeup company’s global brand ambassador and is particularly partial to their red lipstick.
Aside from her love of Revlon’s makeup products, Gwen Stefani also has a dedicated skincare and wellness routine to keep her looking amazing at any age. Read on to learn all of the superstar’s tips and tricks when it comes to makeup.
Makeup Routine
Gwen Stefani’s signature makeup look dates back to her time in the pop-punk band “No Doubt.”
In 1995, Gwen Stefani asked a makeup artist at MAC Cosmetics to help her get ready for a show that she was playing in Los Angeles with her band, and the artist gave her a makeup look with winged black eyeliner and a cherry red lip. The rest is history.
Or it would be if Gwen Stefani’s makeup hadn’t evolved since her 1990s pop-punk heyday. Although the singer still loves a bold red lip, her makeup style has changed as she has grown up.
In a profile for Billboard, Gwen Stefani’s makeup artist Gregory Arlt shared tips on how to get her signature look and dished about how her style has evolved over the years.
Gregory Arlt said, “She’s feeling very flirty and feminine, and we just went with it. She’s just so happy right now and is willing to try and do fun things, like an orange or a pale lip, both of which are very ’60s-inspired and lighter, flirtier and happier.”
Gwen Stefani is also a Revlon brand ambassador, which definitely impacts her makeup choices.
Gwen Stefani genuinely loves the inexpensive drugstore brand, telling Cosmopolitan that, “I’ve always been into grocery store makeup. […] That’s what’s great about Revlon, they’re all the same products as high-end brands, and they work just as well as the expensive versions.”
She’s also said that she likes Revlon’s eyebrow pencils, saying, “It’s so youthful to have a heavier brow; it makes it look so clean and so retro. If you’re using just powders and things like that, you get home, and half your eyebrow’s gone, and you’re like, ‘Oh well, that’s embarrassing.’”
Gwen Stefani also discussed her makeup routine with YouTube beauty influencer and Gwen Stefani lookalike Kandee Johnson. At the time, Gwen Stefani had released an exclusive eyeshadow palette with Urban Decay Cosmetics, although it is no longer available commercially.
If you truly want to embody Gwen Stefani’s signature look, her favorite red lipstick is the way to go.
Gwen Stefani told Elle Magazine that her absolute favorite lipstick shade is Revlon’s “Cherries In The Snow,” saying, “I’m a classic girl; I like that the color has been around forever. It’s that real old-school red.”
Skincare Routine and Wellness Tips
In addition to her makeup, Gwen Stefani is committed to her skincare and personal wellness routine to keep her looking in tip-top shape.
She says that makeup is important, but remembering to take it off is even more important.
Prevention quotes Gwen Stefani as saying, “It was hard when I was younger because I was always on a tour bus, literally washing my face with bottled water, inside a bus. But the key is to keep it clean at night [and] let your face breathe because I really don’t let it breathe at any other time.”
She’s also said that the key to her youthful glow is to stay out of the sun when you can and wear tons of sunscreen when you must be in the sun. Sun protection is especially important as you age.
Gwen Stefani has said that if she could go back in time and tell her fifteen-year-old self anything, it would be to stay out of the sun.
Although she’s noticed that people can tend to cake on makeup on days when they’re not feeling so great, she’s said that the best thing to do is actually the opposite — wash everything off and have a bare-faced day.
She told Elle Magazine, “I think a lot of people will just keep piling one more make-up, more powder. Sometimes, if I have a really long day (like a 14-hour day filming The Voice), I’ll just wash it all off and start over again for that fresh-face feeling.”
Sometimes, less is more if you really want to feel luxurious.
