Hannah Montana star and Wrecking Ball singer Miley Cyrus has been in the public eye for as long as many of us can remember. In 2018, it was reported that her and her beau had got married, but where did they wed?
Miley Cyrus got married to Liam Hemsworth in Franklin, Tennessee. It was a lowkey ceremony that took place at her home in 2018. By 2019, it was reported that the couple had split less than a year into their marriage – ten years after meeting.
Read more below on the timeline of their relationship and the gruelling reason behind their split.
An On Off Relationship
In June 2009, Miley and Liam met on the set of The Last Song and by 2010, the couple had made their red carpet debut at an Oscars event.
Shortly after their red carpet debut, Miley revealed to MTV News that her songs usually revolve around Liam in some way. “All of them are about him in a way, but it’s also about past relationships that you gotta get over and move on and just about freeing yourself from anything that you feel holds you back.”
By August 2010, their relationship hit the rocks for the first time. Allegedly, this was because of Miley’s hectic work schedule. But just a month after those reports, the couple were spotted out together which suggested that they were back together.
No sooner had they gotten back together had they broken up once more, with reports suggesting that it was just a time out. All in all, in 2010, the pair broke up twice all in the space of a couple of months.
By mid 2011, Miley and Liam were back together again. From 2011 to 2013, all seemed good between the pair, and they even got engaged in 2012 and were even pictured on vacation in Costa Rica; however, by September 2013, their relationship had hit the rocks again and Miley unfollowed Liam on Twitter and the engagement was off.
After calling the engagement off, Liam was spotted kissing Eliza Gonzales just a day after his split with Miley.
In November 2014, Miley and Patrick Schwarzenegger (Piley) got together… well that didn’t last after Schwarzenegger was spotted with another woman while on a vacation (though he denies cheating on Miley), so that was the end of that by April of 2015.
Later that year, Liam and Miley reunited and the engagement was back on by 2016 with Miley confirming this in an interview with Ellen Degeneres.
In September 2017, Miley revealed in an interview with the Daily Mail that she didn’t see herself getting married any time soon because she was still so young. “I don’t envision marriage. I’m 24. I hope I get to live a little bit more. I have too much living to do [before I get married].”
Despite claiming she had no plans for marriage the year before, come December 2018, Miley and Liam were married.
Liam later revealed to Vanity Fair that he married Miley because it was what felt right in the moment. “The timing felt right and I go with my heart. No one is promised the next day, or the next, so I try to be ‘in the now’ as much as possible.”
By 2019, Liam joked about the number of kids he’d like with then-wife Miley, saying he wanted “10, 15, maybe 20.” It was later in the year that Miley mentioned in an interview with Elle how she hated being called a wife as she didn’t want to be associated with the typical housewife stereotype.
Miley’s interview with Elle was shortly followed by an official breakup announcement in August that year. It is alleged that the pair broke up after Miley got fed up with Liam’s excessive partying.
