People have mixed Gordon Ramsay up with Dave Ramsey, with one unfortunate soul getting a tattoo in relation to Gordon Ramsay, but the spelling came out like Dave Ramsey. With their names sounding, and spelled, similarly, it’s no surprise. Add in the fact that both are hardasses in their own way, it begs the question: Is Gordon Ramsay related to Dave Ramsey?
No – there is no relation between the celebrity chef and the celebrity finance guru. At least in the familial sense. You can draw relations between the two in personality, drive, and success.
For those who don’t know, Dave Ramsey is a finance guru from Nashville, Tennessee who hosts his own radio show, has written books, and gives talks about personal finance. He created a system in which he refers to personal money management as the 7 Baby Steps to Financial Freedom.
The Seven Baby Steps to Financial Freedom
Dave Ramsey’s faith plays a big part in his life, and he generally only gives his Financial Peace events at churches. During these events, he talks about the 7 Baby Steps to Financial Freedom, which you can also find in other areas of the internet, such as his website, and the online app he has, called EveryDollar.
In their simplest form, the steps are:
- Save $1,000 for an Emergency Fund
- Pay off debt, except your mortgage, by using the Snowball Method
- Save 3-6 months worth of expenses for an emergency
- Invest 15% of household income into retirement
- Save for your child’s college fund
- Pay off your mortgage early
- Build wealth and give
For some, only 5 or 6 of these might apply. If someone doesn’t plan on having children, they obviously don’t need to save for their schooling. Some parents don’t want to pay for their child’s schooling, so again, they wouldn’t need to worry about that.
Parallels
Both Ramsay and Ramsey have faced criticism in their careers, both being told that they just want to be celebrities. Gordon Ramsay has been called out for many things, including his swearing and the shape of his hotel.
Businessman Dave Ramsey has been called hypocritical for charging so much for information to people who are in serious financial trouble. In addition, some people feel that the way he speaks to people is the exact opposite of his Christian claims.
Both have made their marks in their respective industries, and love them or hate them, they have done many a good deed for many families. Both are self-made millionaires, and both have done that through business and entertainment.
I’m sure that if they had a chance to observe and comment on each other that there would be some colorful memes to come out of it.
Ramsay’s Finances
Gordon Ramsay went from nothing, to being worth over $220 million dollars. Pretty sure he doesn’t follow the 7 Baby Steps, nor does he have to. I’m also pretty sure that he has a financial advisor, who is someone other than Dave Ramsey.
I think he’s doing just fine for himself.
Ramsey’s Cooking
While Dave Ramsey does give some advice on cooking, or more accurately, on budgeting meals. More like skimping for meals. We’re pretty sure he hasn’t taken a cooking lesson from Gordon Ramsay, nor has he followed his YouTube and Instagram cooking videos. Also pretty sure that Ramsay wouldn’t agree with Ramsey on everything he suggests.
Perhaps It’s for the Best
Can you imagine these two being related and having a Thanksgiving, or Christmas, meal together? Actually, come to think of it, that could be the next big show for them to do, it could be entertaining, if not annoying, to watch.
I’m sure the rest of the families of these two are happy that they aren’t related and that they aren’t relegated to the disfunction these two would bring to holiday gatherings.
