Lady Gaga has a pretty impressive collection of designer shades and enjoys wearing them on every turn. How does she feel about glasses, and does she use them for vision correction?
Lady Gaga has been spotted wearing glasses. It’s unclear if the Grammy-winning singer used them as a fashion accessory or because she’s trying to improve her eyesight.
Stick around to get a sneak peek into Lady Gaga’s collection of glasses, and see how she implemented them into her style.
Lady Gaga Wearing Glasses
Lady Gaga knows how to make an impression every time she hits the red carpet, and her appearance at Brandon Maxwell’s NYFW show in 2016 was no exception.
The “Poker Face” singer arrived at this event in a matching crop top, mini shorts, and an elegant blazer draped over her shoulders. She was dressed in black from head to toe and finished the look with a pair of platform boots.
Several publications, including The Huffington Post, reported that she looked “nearly unrecognizable” – and this had nothing to do with her choice of clothes. Her bold-rimmed glasses caught everyone’s eye and gave her outfit some serious edge.
Lady Gaga is no stranger to wearing unnecessary things just because they look good. It’s possible that she didn’t need spectacles to improve her vision, but simply liked the way they looked on her.
The Grammy-winning artists also donned a pair of black-rimmed glasses during Oprah Winfrey’s arena tour Oprah’s 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus. She did the same while promoting the benefit concert One World: Together at Home on Jimmy Fallon’s show.
It’s unclear if Lady Gaga is wearing glasses for aesthetics or as visual aids, but she doesn’t need them at all times. This made some of her fans wonder if she’s using contact lenses instead.
What About Contact Lenses?
It’s been suggested that Lady Gaga wears contact lenses to change the color of her eyes, and so she could move freely while performing. She was also spotted with infamous eye-widening lenses in the video for “Bad Romance”, and health professionals weren’t impressed by this trend.
According to The Independent, her anime-inspired eyes in this video were computer-generated, but that didn’t stop people from trying to recreate her look. The so-called “circle lenses” were a huge hit in Asia long before “Bad Romance” came out, but several eye care specialists described them as potentially dangerous.
Dr. Jennifer Ashton told The Early Show that wearing these lenses can lead to serious infections because they’re usually worn for purely cosmetic reasons and not regulated by an eye care professional.
“You do not want to mess with this. And we’ve seen colored contact lenses become popular years and years ago. This is kind of the newest version of that trend. You have to remember they were initially designed to treat vision problems – not to make you look better,” explained Ashton.
An Impressive Collection
Lady Gaga wears sunglasses all the time, and that makes it difficult to pinpoint if she needs spectacles or not. It often seems that she wears them the same way as any other shades – as a fashion accessory that goes well with the rest of her look.
During an interview with Barbara Walters in 2009, the “Just Dance” singer revealed that she usually doesn’t take her sunglasses off for interviews. Her collection of designer shades includes many retro and futuristic models in a wide range of shapes and colors.
The Mickey Mouse shades by Linda Farrow X Jeremy Scott are one of her signature models, but she gave her seal of approval to countless other designers. Her collection also includes glamorous sunglasses by Versace, Chanel, Ray-Ban, and countless other famous brands.
While serving as Polaroid’s creative director, Lady Gaga even tried to mix her passion for sunglasses and photography into one. She designed GL20 camera glasses, but this product was never officially released.
