Someone who’s earned over a billion dollars in their career must have some nice toys in their arsenal. Think about how you would spend your money if you earned as much as Tiger Woods. Houses, cars, trips, a yacht, there is so much you could get and still have a lot of money left over. Does Tiger Woods own a yacht?
Tiger Woods was able to keep his 155-foot yacht, named Privacy through his divorce with now ex-wife Elin Nordegren. Woods purchased the yacht, which can sleep 19 between guests and crew, in 2004 for $20 million.
Woods often uses the yacht for more than just vacations and getaways. He’s been known to use it as a means of transportation and accommodation for tournaments that are located in areas where he is able to dock. I can see why, I’d rather stay in my luxurious accommodations than stay at a hotel, no matter how nice it is.
Yachts
Sailing and cruising vessels, for the purpose of pleasure, have been around for a long time, dating back to the 8th century. Pleasure cruising may have been around for ages, but the vessels look very different these days, then when the fun sport began.
When it originally became popular, pleasure sailing was the act of sailing, and not necessarily a type of vessel. People just sailed in whatever sailboats were available at the time. The first vessel that would become what we think of as a yacht, was commissioned in the early 1600s, by King James VI, for his son, the Prince of Wales.
About a hundred years later, sometime during the 1700s, the term “yacht” was developed. The term was named after the German term jachten, which were pleasure boats for the elite class. We might not classify them as fancy now, especially compared to some of the ones on the waters today.
If you want to own the most expensive yacht, you’re going to need to come up with over $1 billion, as that’s how much the current most expensive one costs currently. Whether you’re purchasing a yacht, or just renting one, you may not be paying a billion dollars, but you are still going to have to fork over a pretty penny.
Privacy
While it might not be the biggest yacht in the arena, the Privacy is still pretty impressive. Not only did Tiger pay $20 million for the yacht, but it costs $2 million annually for upkeep and the nine crew members that it takes to run efficiently.
If you’re too tired after a long day of golf and can’t manage to take the stairs to and from the 3 levels, not to worry, there’s an elevator that can fit three people. The jacuzzi is even bigger, it fits eight.
For those who like to know the numbers under the hood, so to speak, it has a top speed of 18 knots, with a cruising speed of 16 knots. The 12,000 gallons of fuel it can hold will help take the yacht 4,000 nautical miles before needing a fill-up.
Woods is an avid water sportsman and has all of the fun amenities to go along with that, including a decompression chamber for scuba diving, as well as a scuba tank fill station, jet skis, kayaks, and motorized scooters for trips ashore. There are also smaller boats aboard so that he can go out fishing, and can make it inland if the yacht is too large to dock.
Extravagant Lifestyle
Purchasing his yacht is not the only extravagant thing that Tiger Woods has purchased. If I made the kind of money he did on a regular basis, I would be out there building a sprawling estate, purchasing a private jet, and getting my own personal equipment made as well. Though, I don’t think I would bring my furniture with me when I traveled.
