Jim Carrey is one of the most prolific comedic actors of his generation. The comedian has appeared in several movies and television shows throughout the years.
Jim Carrey appeared as a guest star in ‘The Office’ in the season finale of the seventh season of the hit television show. The episode aired in May 2011 and was entitled “Search Committee”.
Jim Carrey guest-starred on the series following the departure of main cast alumni, Steve Carrell.
‘The Office’
The critically acclaimed American television series aired on NBC for 8 years between 2005 and 2013. The show ran for a total of nine seasons and is based on the British television series of the same name.
The show is set in an office – as the name suggests – and follows the life of employees at the made-up Dunder Mifflin Paper Company” and their daily interactions with each other.
The series had its ups and downs with viewership throughout its time on NBC due to competition with other popular series, and NBC changing its program line-up.
By the time ‘The Office’ found its permanent timeslot, it steadily grew in ratings and attracted more and more fans. At its peak, it gave NBC the enviable distinction of broadcasting the highest-rated scripted television show.
The highest-rated episode was watched by almost 23 million viewers.
Jim Carrey was only one of several guest stars who appeared on the show throughout its 8-year run on the network.
Finger Lakes Guy
Jim Carrey’s style of comedy was perfect for The Office. His slapstick humor and sometimes deadpan delivery, – for which the show is known – with accompanying facial expressions, have left audiences in stitches worldwide.
Jim’s quirky character had apparently applied to the Regional Manager position at the Scranton Pennsylvania office and was credited as “The Finger Lakes Guy”.
The dubious name resulted from Jim’s character’s frequent references to Finger Lakes when he appeared on camera.
Jim Carrey appeared only once on the show and by the time he did so, Steve Carrel had already departed to expand his growing movie horizons. The pair, therefore, did not have any scenes together in the series.
Stars Turned Guest Stars
In addition to the venerable Jim Carrey, ‘The Office’ has feted multiple other movie stars as guests on the show.
Other notable guest stars included Will Ferrell, Ricky Gervais, Warren Buffet, Idris Elba, and Amy Adams.
