Demi Lovato has been a household name for well over a decade, best known for her Disney Channel appearances and her six studio albums. Despite her success as a singer and an actress, people might be wondering if Demi Lovato can dance well.
Demi Lovato can dance well. Though it’s not what she’s most well known for, Lovato, like many other modern-day pop stars, incorporates dance routines and backup dancers into her live performances and music videos.
Read more below about Demi Lovato’s rise to pop superstardom and how she incorporates dance routines from some of the top choreographers to take her performances to new levels.
It Runs in the Family
Demi Lovato was born on August 20, 1992 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Though Lovato possessed a natural talent, the desire to be in front of an audience ran in the family, as Demi’s mom, Dianna De La Garza, used to perform high impact routines as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.
While growing up as a child actress, Demi Lovato took piano and guitar lessons, but her career was focused on acting. After leaving Barney and Friends, Lovato rose within the ranks of teen stars working for the Disney Channel, taking on multiple roles on various shows, which required her singing and dancing talents to be on full display.
Disney Channel Dance Moves
The Disney Channel is famous for its family-centric programming, much of which is composed of musical television shows and made-for-tv movies. During her tenure with Disney, Demi Lovato became well known for her role in Camp Rock, in which she starred as Mitchie Torres, an aspiring performer with an amazing voice, who attends a summer rock camp,
Camp Rock had over a dozen songs on its soundtrack, most of which appeared as musical numbers in the film and required the cast to sing and dance during filming. The film was choreographed by Kishaya Dudley (famous for her work with Michael Jackson), and Demi Lovato performed her own dance moves during shooting, along with the other cast members.
Superstardom and Sexy Sway
Shortly after, Demi Lovato’s first studio album, Don’t Forget, was released in September 2008. To promote the album, Lovato embarked on tour with The Jonas Brothers, her co-stars in Camp Rock.
Though that tour ended with Demi Lovato attacking a backup dancer, the singer continued to make music and perform live, showing off her skills as a singer and dancer. As Lovato matured as a performer, so did her dance routines and costumes, with the latter taking on a more provocative appeal.

Demi Lovato, with six studio albums to her name, has performed live numerous times, most recently working with choreographer Jojo Gomez. Gomez, a top celebrity choreographer, has worked with some of the biggest acts in pop music history, including Britney Spears.
Demi Lovato is such a big fan of Gomez’s work, the pop star stopped by one of Jojo Gomez’s dance classes, much to the delight of class attendees. Lovato watched as the class performed a routine to her hit song “Sorry, Not Sorry,” with the pop singer clapping effusively for the dancers at the end of the routine.
Lovato has also taken to social media to interact with fans about dancing, most notably when a Demi Lovato dance challenge went viral. Lovato herself took to Twitter, encouraging fans to take the challenge and said it “was giving her life.”
Demi Lovato may be known for her singing and acting more than her dancing, but it’s clear she’s a talented dancer, making her a true triple threat in the entertainment industry.
With a new album rumored to be on the way in 2020, it’s clear fans will see more marvelous moves from the raven-haired beauty in the future.
