Some people sing in the shower, others sing in the kitchen, and others do it professionally. Whether you use your spatula to sing along to the radio or are known for singing and cooking, it can be fun and entertaining. Picture Gordon Ramsay singing into a spatula microphone. I wonder how he’d do. Can Gordon Ramsay sing?
No – though he may bring up different song titles when insulting guests, that’s about as close to singing as the celebrity chef is willing to get. He has no problem critiquing other people’s singing, as well as their food, and even his daughter isn’t safe from either!
Gordon Ramsay isn’t all yelling and insults though. After a shoutout by Lil Nas X, Gordon was down to teach the singer of Panini, how to make paninis. They cooked, posed for a picture, and when asked if the temperamental chef yelled at him, Lil Nas X exclaimed “Sadly, no”.
The Science of Singing
Unlike some talents, singing is one that people are just born with. Or, I should say, good singing. Technically, almost anyone can sing. If you have a voice box you’re able to produce a tune. Unfortunately, for many, that does not make them the next Justin Timberlake or Adele.
When you break it down scientifically your lungs, vocal cords, especially the vocal folds, and air all play a major role in being able to sing. The volume of your voice is dependant on the amount of air being forced out of your lungs. Your vocal cords affect your pitch.
People who have lower pitch voices, such as baritone, tend to have shorter, thicker vocal cords, and the opposite is true for those who can hit the high notes. But, this isn’t the only factor, luckily, since we have no control over the size or thickness of our vocal cords. The tightening of them also plays a part with pitch, and it’s something that we can control, and practice.
Speaking of practice, you can become a better singer with proper coaching and practice. Or at least some people can. Others are just tone-deaf and are unable to recreate the sounds. Unfortunately, shower and kitchen singing might be the farthest these people make it in their singing careers.
Popularity of Singing Shows
The past few years singing shows have gained popularity again. Over the decades there have always been singing shows, such as Soul Train, Putting on the Hits, and many others.
Within the past several years, however, there seems to be an influx of singing shows, and people just can’t get enough. You have American Idol, The Voice, The Masked Singer, America’s Got Talent, and the XFactor, to name a few.
The last two aren’t solely for singing, but do include acts. These are just the American versions, many, if not all, have equivalents in other countries as well. One show that’s extremely popular across the pond is Eurovision, which showcases not just the singing, but writing and stage performances as well.
Gordon Ramsay himself has taken part in some of these, no not as a singer, but he’s been in the audience of an American Idol taping. He made a guest appearance at the judge’s table of The Masked Singer. And, while not related to the show, he had some fun with Voice judge, John Legend.
These shows prove that there are many talented singers out there, whether born or bred, and the world just can’t get enough. No need to worry though if your dream of becoming a famous singer didn’t go as planned, there are still many talents one can have.
While Gordon Ramsay has started to take up TikTok with his youngest daughter, Matilda, which is quite entertaining, I still think that we get the maximum entertainment from him doing what he’s doing. Think of all the memes and insults the world would be without if he had been a singer instead.
