Can the Wedding Crashers movie star play American football?
Vince Vaughn can play football, although he’s not remarkably good at it. He mentioned in an interview that he used to play a little football in high school, but that he never got serious about it. He infamously played an aggressive game of touch football in the movie The Wedding Crashers.

High School Sports
During a 2004 interview with MSN, Vince Vaughn was asked if he was athletic at all. He responded, “No, I’m not athletic. I played some sports and stuff in high school, and I was very average.”
He continued, “I played football. I wrestled. Those were team sports and I played for the school. When I was younger I played kick the can and stuff like that. I loved that.”
The actor further explained, “I didn’t like it when they started yelling at you and started taking it real serious. They were like, ‘If you want it bad enough, run around the block,’ and I realized that I didn’t want it bad enough to run around the block.”
So, it seems the actor has never gotten particularly serious about the contact sport.
Wedding Crashers
In the 2005 Wedding Crashers, Vince Vaughn stars alongside Owen Wilson in a film about two divorce mediators who crash weddings in order to sleep with women.
“Are you ready? Are you ready for some football?” Vince Vaughn’s character is asked, at the start of a game of what is supposed to be “touch” football. “Just hike the ball, nutjob,” he replies.
After Vaughn’s team lets a walk-in touchdown get past them, Owen Willson’s character asks Vaughn to let his love interest catch an interception.
Vaughn isn’t happy about the arrangement and replies, “I was first team all-state. I can put the ball wherever I want to. I’ll make it rain out here.”
Despite seeming to know all the correct football lingo—shouting “Hot Route! Red Seven!”, shortly afterward, Vaughn is aggressively tackled, with an opponent named “Sack” calling out, “That’s what we call a Sack lunch!”
“Big tree, fall hard, right?” another character asks the winded Vaughn.
After being slammed into yet again, an upset Vaughn lays on the grass while Wilson asks him, “Now you’re gonna scream at me? ‘Cuz you’re not athletic enough to stand on your two feet?”
“I hate you,” Vaughn replies.
So, it seems even in the film world, Vince Vaughn’s football skills leave more to be desired.

The Break-Up
In the 2006 film The Break-Up, Jennifer Aniston’s character is attempting to make Vince Vaughn’s character jealous by having a date over to pick her up. Vaughn ends up inviting the date to play the Madden Football video game with him.
Apparently Vaughn’s character is an expert at virtual football, having thoroughly beaten a 12-year-old online just prior.
One of Vaughn’s standout trash-talking comments to the boy was, “Do you think it’s possible your mom wont love you anymore, if she sees how bad you’re losing in the game?”
When Vaughn takes on Aniston’s date, he mouths off a little more, saying, “While your guys are out partying, mine are running routes.”
At least he’s good at virtual football, then. Watch the funny movie clip below.
Vince Vaughn—a Football Great?
Not any time soon. It seems the real-life Vaughn is not that athletic and even in a fictitious game of touch football he fared surprisingly badly.
When it comes to video game football, one of Vince’s characters does well at least. So, if you need an extra player in your next football game, don’t ask Vince Vaughn.
