Jay-Z Buys Beyoncé an Island
In 2010, Beyonce’s husband and American Rapper, Jay-Z bought a private island on her birthday. It is reported that he splashed about $4 million on the 12.5 acre island. The island is located in serene and up-scale Florida Keys, south of Miami. The island was a gift to commemorate their five year anniversary and to allow them to have private time with Blue-Ivy. According to Style Caster Magazine, the inspiration behind their acquisition came from the British entrepreneur Richard Branson. Mr. Branson has a 30-hectare island in the British Virgin Islands branded Necker Island. Jay-Z had been thoroughly researching islands in the Bahamas.
The 12.5 hectare island is carpeted with lush greenery and has a natural harbor. A natural harbor provides a perfect setting for snorkeling and scuba diving due to the crystal clear waters. The calmer waves around the island is a hot breeding ground for schools of fish. Don’t be surprised if the family picks up new eating habits in the Island. The area is known to have some sketchy phone reception and no satellite TV. This is probably music to Beyonce’s ears given her dislike for public attention. Beyonce and her family will now have a perfect time exploring the caves, nooks, water sports, exploring the jungle and doing some fishing. Who -knows; in a few years Beyonce’s Sir Carter might prove to be quite the catch?
Jay Z must have caught on to her wife’s love for jungles and the wild, and they are passing on the baton to Blue Ivy. For Blue Ivy’s second birthday, the Black American power couple closed out Jungle Island, a Florida based jungle attraction and a botanical garden spot for a zoo-themed exclusive party. Of course, the party was strictly by invitation, as reported by the Daily Mail. Photos of the event later surfaced up on social media. The family was spotted surrounded by exotic animals such as penguins, kangaroos, and lemurs.
Any Island Neighbours?
Even though they live in their part of the world (quite figuratively and literally), it’s always good to have some neighbors around. You never know, you might have to go and borrow some sugar. Right?
The Florida Keys is a secluded chain of islands between Cuba, Miami, and the Bahamas. Given the high price of an island, only the A list of super-stars and who is who can afford to be neighbors to the power couple. According to Ranker, here’s a list of some of the island owners in that area:
- Black American director and actor Tyler Perry became an island owner in 2009. He typically flies himself to his island, the White Bay Cay in the Bahamas
- Renowned comedian Eddie Murphy owns numerous islands in the vicinity.
- Superstar magician David Copperfield owns a whooping 11 islands in the Bahama region. Imagine that?
- Musician Lenny Kravitz is an island proprietor in the area as well.
The only question would be how to move between all those miles of the ocean. All that for some sugar?
