The Cost of Wearing Fur Coats
There are several kinds of fur in the luxury section. The most common are from minks, foxes, chinchillas, sables, and lynxes.
Mink fur is one of the highest-selling worldwide. It is lightweight and has a soft texture and unique sheen and durability. It comes in a rich, chocolate shade of dark brown. A mink fur coat price ranges from $2,500 to well over $50,000.
A sable fur coat is one of the most coveted on earth, revered for its silky pelt, which retains its smoothness after petting. A modest fur jacket can start at around $16,000, but a top-quality silvery coat can easily cost upwards of $150,000.
Chinchilla fur recognized for its alluring slate blue-gray color, is extremely light in weight, yet has the highest hair density of any animal. A chinchilla fur coat is softer and warmer. Chinchilla fur is expensive because it is difficult to work with. Prices range from $30,000 to $100,000.
Fox fur which comes in numerous natural colors, is found all over the world. As a fashion statement, fox fur coats are popular because of its long hair and distinctive coloring. Price can average $3,000 to $15,000 or way more for top-tier designers.

The Environmental Degradation Caused By The Fur Industry
Designers and material clients believe that animal well-being is of utmost importance as regards to material resources. Millions of wild animals are killed yearly for their pelts in fur factory farms, with no regulations in existence regarding the care and handling of animals in these facilities. The animals are often kept in small cages where they are neglected, lacking basic needs, such as water and are malnourished. These animals are often killed most brutally just to protect the commercial value of their commodity which is the pelt. They are electrocuted through their genitals in the most inhumane way.
The fur industry is also bad for the environment. The fur factory farms release a lot of carbon dioxide from the breeding of the animals. The toxic chemicals used in fur dressing to preserve the pelt from rotting and decomposing such as formaldehyde and ammonia cause environmental pollution. The World Bank has ranked the fur industry as one of the world’s five worst industries for toxic metal pollution.
Although fur coats are a fabulous fashion choice, we all have a choice in deciding whether or not to wear fur, but the animals in the fur factory farms do not. While we will love to see Beyoncé in more fashionable pieces, we certainly do not want it to be at the expense of our environment.
