Read on to learn more about Howard Stern and his impressive locks.
Hair on the Air
Howard Stern is not just instantly recognizable in image, but also in voice. He’s been a prominent radio figure since the mid-seventies, finding huge success as time went on. As early as 1992, Stern described himself as the King of All Media.
This came from his long, incredibly successful career on radio, and then on television. He was signed as a host and presenter – or producer – for numerous shows. He was everywhere on radio and television, and became a household name.
In 2004, he signed an enormous deal that essentially made him one of the highest-paid radio figures in history. By 2020, he’d never left the air – Howard Stern had always remained on the radio, on multiple shows and channels.
Being as he was in the public spotlight, he’d come under debate several times owing to his image. His thick, curly black hair has been put under a microscope on many occasions. There are those who don’t believe Stern’s hair is his own, and that he wears a wig.
However, Stern has fought back relentlessly against these allegations, saying it’s totally natural. In a 2011 video on YouTube (shown below), Stern states explicitly that his hair is indeed his own.
In fact, he’s quite prideful of his luscious locks. His hair has remained almost entirely the same for decades, and marks him as an instantly recognizable figure. When you think of Howard Stern, you think of the hair and shades combination that he rocks so often.
In 2017, he faced a potential cancer scare. Later, he explained in depth how he felt with such a revelation staring him down. He responded: “Certainly, I know that losing my hair wouldn’t be the worst of chemo, but just imagine my face with a bald head.”
In a 2019 article, he expands on this by reiterating that his hair is completely natural. He stated that he doesn’t even use dyes to maintain the dark black shade. He claimed his grandfather had dark black hair into his eighties, and never balded. In 2020, at age sixty-six, he was yet to sprout any gray hairs.
Hairy Success
Although his image is iconic, it’s his voice and confidence that has driven Howard Stern to success. As of 2020, he was worth a reported $650 million, a staggering number. He had pursued a dream of being on the radio since the tender age of just five.
Stern worked for a massive string of radio networks and delved into television. He saw huge success as a judge on American’s Got Talent. In this reality talent show, he served as a main judge for four seasons.
In every single season, Stern looked absolutely identical. He would sit behind the judge’s table, with his trademark shades and curly hair combination on display.
However, one of Stern’s biggest areas of success – and longest – is with his self-titled radio show. The Howard Stern show has run – as of 2020 – for almost fifty years, having started in the mid-seventies.
This show is typically viewed as a comedic talk show. The subjects are often controversial, uncensored and very blunt. Stern regularly hosts guests, some of whom make up top-tier industry professionals: actors, musicians, and the like.
As time goes on, Stern’s hair may start to wain. His father sports a bald head, and there’s always that chance Stern may follow in his footprints.
