Jennifer Aniston has often been seen walking a dog or speaking about how much she loves animals in general, but how many pets does she actually have?
Yes; Jennifer Aniston has had four dogs to date. Two of them have, sadly, passed, but the other two are happy and thriving; they live with her currently! Jennifer loves to talk about her dogs and animals in general, and she posts pictures with her dogs often, too!
Read on to learn more about all four of Jennifer’s dogs, as well as her love for animals in general.
Does She Have Any Dogs or Cats?
Jennifer does not have cats or any other animals as pets; she has only had dogs to date. However, when speaking to People about her love for animals, she said, “If I could have a llama, a pig, an alpaca, sheep, goats, I would.”
Jennifer’s first dog was Norman. Later, she adopted Dolly, Sophie, and Clyde with her ex-husband Justin Theroux. Currently, she lives with Clyde and Sophie as well. Jennifer feels very close to her dogs; she says, “Men come and go but there really is no relationship like the one you have with a dog – and then they don’t live as long as they should. You have to say goodbye way too soon. It’s just so sad. It makes me so sad. But their love is unconditional and I love that.”
Jennifer Had a Custody Battle With Her Ex Over Their Dogs
Jennifer Aniston met and began to date, actor and director Justin Theroux in 2011. They got engaged in 2012, married in 2015, and unfortunately split in 2017; divorcing soon after. Justin Theroux is also an animal lover and speaks out for animal rights often as well. His dog Kuma was a rescue, and he often uses his social media to encourage people to help pups in need. For instance, he did so after paying a visit to the Ventura County Animal Services shelter in Camarillo, California.
Jennifer and Justin had three dogs together before they broke up: Clyde, who is a terrier; Dolly, who was a white German shepherd mix; and Sophie, who is a Pitbull mix. Once they broke up, Jennifer and Justin were faced with deciding who would have custody of their dogs. Many dog-owning couples face thus decision after they split, and ugly custody battles sometimes ensure.
Things did not get so ugly in this case though; the couple seemed to sort it out among themselves. Jennifer ended up keeping Dolly, Clyde, and Sophie. Justin stayed in New York with Kuma. Both of them also made vacation arrangements, similar to what happens when deciding upon child custody. This isn’t surprising considering that Jennifer and Justin often referred to their dogs as ‘children.’
Sophie and Clyde Still Live With Jennifer
Dolly and Sophie were present when Jennifer and Justin got married in 2015 when the couple decided to get married at their home rather than elope so that their dogs could be there with them. The dogs even got special spa treatment for the ceremony!
Both Sophie, and now Clyde, live with Jennifer. Sophie seems to be a dog with taste; Jennifer has shared videos of them watching The Bachelor finale together! This series of videos of Sophie on Jennifer’s Instagram story was captioned, “In last night’s news…Sophie is very invested in this.”
Clyde also makes appearances on her Instagram quite often.
Jennifer Misses Dolly and Norman
Norman was Jennifer’s first dog; he passed away at the age of 15. She was heartbroken and got his name tattooed on her foot. This was her first tattoo ever. “I had another dog, Norman, who was so lovely and was my best friend for many years,” she told Dogs Monthly. “When he went at the age of 15, I was heartbroken and I had his name tattooed on my right foot so he still comes for walks with me.”
Dolly’s passing was just as sad. Justin Theroux and Jennifer even reunited in mourning her after she passed. Jennifer had named Dolly after one of her favorite singers, singer Dolly Parton.
Also to Dogs Monthly, she said, “I had a slightly embarrassing moment with Dolly because I named her after Dolly Parton, a fabulous lady, great singer, and performer. I then worked with Dolly on a movie and said, ‘I named my dog after you’. It was meant as a compliment. Dolly laughed and said, ‘I would never have thought of doing that. I have never heard of a dog called Jennifer’. I thought for a minute that she had felt insulted but she hadn’t – she loves dogs too.”
