Carey’s Childhood Smoking Habit
Estimates show that 90% of smokers will begin before the age of 21, with nearly 6,000 American children beginning to smoke every day.
Each year, 1.3 million American smokers quit. At one stage, Carey was one of those 1.3 million.

The Effects of Smoking on the Vocal Cords
It turns out that something on the long list of negative side effects of smoking is negative implications for your voice. Somehow, that’s not too shocking given all the harsh substances you inhale when you’re smoking.
Research has shown that heavy smoking can lead to inflamed vocal cords due to frequent irritation from smoking on the vocal cords. Smoking has been linked with voice disorders such as laryngeal cancer.
Are The Effects of Smoking Reversible?
If you’re not aware of this already, I hate to be the one to break it to you but no, the effects of smoking are not reversible – so don’t smoke, or if you do, you probably shouldn’t. Smoking wreaks all kinds of havoc on your body, so it should come as no surprise that if you do damage to your body through smoking, it’s unlikely you’ll ever be able to change that.
But it’s not all that bad though! If you quit smoking, you can reduce your risks of all kinds of health problems in the future, like diabetes and you’ll be releasing the strain on your heart and lungs, so simultaneously, you’ll be reducing your risk of respiratory and pulmonary health issues.
Hollywood’s Smokers
Let’s take a look at some of Hollywood’s past and present smokers.
First up, we’ve got Zayn Malik. I’m sure you know him from One Direction, and I can tell you that he’s most definitely a smoker. He’s not shy when it comes to grabbing the camera and taking a picture with a cigarette in his mouth, but hey, he’s still a great singer!
Next, we’ve got Wrecking Ball singer, Miley Cyrus, who caused a bit of a stir in a post where she could be seen glorifying the use of cannabis. She revealed that she had started smoking again last year thanks to her mother.
Even scary spice Mel B enjoys a cigarette or two from time to time, but it doesn’t mean that you should be smoking.
If you’re no stranger to the British royal family, you’ll know that Prince Harry used to smoke, but he’s quit – that’s more like it!
Actress Jenifer Anniston also used to smoke, but she quit in the ‘90s claiming that smoking made her gain weight. There’s some research that suggests smoking causes weight gain, but it’s more likely that you’ll gain weight once you quit smoking.
Final Words
While Mariah might have made some wild decisions as a child, she eventually realized what was right for her health and decided to quit smoking. She’s not the first and she won’t be the last celeb to quit smoking, but it’s one of the many great choices she’s made for sure!
