Nicki has a complicated family life, only made more confusing by the many rumors about her online. Some say that Nicki has a twin, but is it true?
Nicki Minaj does not have a twin. She has a younger sister that looks a lot like her, and she invented her own evil twin alter-ego.
Nicki Minaj’s Almost-Twin
Nicki Minaj’s sister looks so much like her that fans were quick to call them “twins.” However, Nicki’s sister Ming is younger than Nicki, so the two are not technically twins.
Nicki did not post about her little sister Ming until 2013. Fans were surprised to learn that Nicki had a little sister.
Nicki seems to keep Ming out of the spotlight. She only posted about her twice – once in the post mentioned above in 2013, and a second time in early 2020.
In 2020 Nicki shared a short video of Ming rapping along to “Moment for Life.” Once again, fans were quick to point out the physical similarities between Nicki and her sister.
Nicki’s Complicated Family Life
Nicki seems to be on good terms with Ming, but there have been complex issues with her other family members in the past. Fans were first made aware of these issues when Nicki opened up in interviews.
Nicki discussed her abusive father in 2011, explaining that she and her siblings lived in fear that he would kill her mother. She said that he was a violent drug addict and was abusive both verbally and physically.
However, in a 2012 interview she revealed that things improved and she was on good terms with her father. She said her father went to rehab and started going to church.
Nicki’s father overcame his substance abuse and stopped being abusive. He still lives with Nicki’s mother.
Fans Speak Out Against Nicki’s Brother
Although Nicki managed to reconcile and heal her relationship with her father, she had difficulties with another family member. Fans uncovered court documents detailing a case against her brother, Jelani Maraj, in 2017.
Nicki Minaj’s brother, Jelani, was convicted for sexual assault of a child. In 2020 he was found guilty and given a twenty five year prison sentence.
Nicki never came forward to publicly address her brother’s crime and trial. There are reports that she wrote a letter to the judge begging him to have mercy on her brother, but this information is not confirmed.
Nicki was originally going to defend his character in court, but ultimately attended his trial without speaking in his defense. Nicki never released a statement about the situation.
Nicki’s old photo with her brother from 2015 is now flooded with comments discussing his crime. Some fans argue that Nicki should condemn his behavior, while others recognize that he is her brother and she is in a tough situation.
Nicki Has an Imaginary Twin
Although Nicki has multiple siblings, she did invent one more: an evil twin brother named Roman Zolanski. Roman is one of Nicki’s alter-egos that she utilizes in her rapping.
Nicki started using Roman as an alter-ego in 2010. She claimed that she was not featured on “Bottoms Up,” but that it was actually Roman.
Nicki also surprised fans in 2010 by claiming that she officially changed her name to Roman Zolanski. She said that she would only respond to that name.
Nicki later cleared up that Roman was an alter-ego that occasionally takes over. Since his inception, Roman has developed as a complex character.
Roman made small appearances at first, seeming to pop out when Nicki was angry in songs like “Bottoms Up” or “Monster.” He gained a more complete background and plot in Nicki’s albums, Pink Friday and later Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.
Nicki artistically filled out Roman’s character through her songs and performances. He appeared less on her subsequent albums, but did make an appearance on her 2018 song “Barbie Dreams.”
Nicki does not have a real twin, although she does have real siblings and a complicated family life. She invented her own twin as an alter-ego to utilize during her rapping.
