Will Smith, well-known for his role in The Fresh Prince of Belair, is also known for his extensive car collection. Since he owns multiple classic cars like his 1965 Ford Mustang, hybrids like his BMW i8 and even a mobile mansion, many people are wondering if he also owns a private jet.
While Will Smith and his family do seem to charter private jets sometimes, they are still frequently seen in airports or on scheduled flights (albeit in first class). That being said, no, Will Smith does not own a private jet.
Despite Will and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, being worth around $320 million combined, they have chosen to spend their money on other things.
Will Smith’s Car Collection
As mentioned before, Will has a love of cars which may have stemmed from his many movie roles featuring classic cars. He has a 1965 Ford Mustang, likely after the Mustang he drove in I am Legend. While this car is only worth about $26,000, it is a collectible as Mustangs only started to be sold in 1964. Will’s is also in mint condition.
Not only does Will like classic cars, but also has a love of luxurious ones as well. Will owns a car from one of the most sought after luxury brands, a Rolls Royce. He has a Rolls Royce Ghost which is worth around $311,900. Another expensive car in his possession is his Maybach 57S, only three thousand were manufactured from 2002 to 2012 making them quite valuable, worth around $400,000.
As he is a well-known family man with three kids, he also has a few SUVs to fit everyone in. Will owns a Lincoln navigator, worth $60,000, a Mercedes GL450 worth $67,000 and a Cadillac Escalade worth $76,000. All that being said, his preferred mode of transport seems to be via luxurious and classic cars and not private jets.
Will Smith’s Other Purchases
Will not only loves to spend money on cars, but also many intangible things. In 2011, Will bought a 280 million dollar minority stake in the Philadelphia 76ers, the city’s basketball team. Philadelphia is Will’s hometown in real life, not just on The Fresh Prince of Belair, so Will felt passionate about becoming a part owner.
Will Smith is not only just an actor in the entertainment industry, Will and Jada also own a movie studio and a record label called Overbook Entertainment. The studio produced many of Will’s hit movies, including Hitch, Men in Black II and I am Legend. From this studio, came Westbook Inc, their multimedia, cross-platform venture. Will and Jada state the mission of this company is: “to spread positive ideas, art, and products that entertain and empower the greatest number of lives, inspiring the next generation of artists to do good in the world.”
Will Smith also owns multiple luxurious motorhomes. One alone, which he nicknamed “The Heat” is worth $2.5 million which he rents out for $9,000 a day. Their family home is a 42 million dollar mansion. They live in Calabasas, California, an area known for housing celebrities and wealthy people. This is not even the only home they own, as their son Jaden Smith lives in a $4 million dollar mansion in Hidden Hills, California. The family also used to have a second home in Hawaii which they sold for $12 million.
Flying In Style
Although Will Smith is obviously well-off and willing to spend money, he has not spent his money on a private jet for himself. In 2012, however, Will Smith became an investor in a type of ride sharing app called BlackJet where instead of a car, users could request a flight on other people’s private planes. BlackJet did not receive the funding it needed, however, and never came to fruition. This was as close as Will came to owning his own jet. He’ll just have to settle for getting around in his multiple cars instead.
