Oscar award-winning American actor Leonardo DiCaprio has amassed a wealth of millions after the success of his films. Being a car connoisseur is how he spends it.
DiCaprio has a decidedly humble, environmentally friendly collection of cars despite his passion for automobiles. He owns a luxury $100,000 Tesla and another premium Fisker, with a total of approximately 6 cars, and campaigns for sustainability in driving. He is also an avid fan of motorsports.

DiCaprio’s Car Collection
One of the first cars that DiCaprio purchased was a Toyota Prius, which he said he was drawn to due to its low environmental impact.
He said of the car, “I own a Toyota Prius; it’s a step in the right direction…We have the technology to make every car produced in America today just as clean, cheap and efficient.”
It is reported that DiCaprio was such a big fan of the car that he purchased several more for his family.
He also owns yet another sustainable Lexus RX Hybrid, telling Top Gear in 2012, “I have my Fisker, obviously, and I have a Lexus hybrid, but I don’t own anything else… Ever since I learned about hybrid vehicles, that’s all I’ve really owned.”
The actor bought a 2012 Fisker Karma Hybrid, a plug-in luxury “green” sports sedan, for approximately $110,000 in its premium range: an upgrade from the Prius.
It has solar panels on its roof that work to recharge the car’s Lithium-Ion battery, and uses no animal products in its interiors, instead opting for reclaimed lumber and natural fabrics.
This is not to say that the car is not powerful, with an impressive top speed of 125 mph.
DiCaprio later became a brand ambassador for Fisker Automobiles, and the company said in a press release, “DiCaprio will work closely with marketing and promotional initiatives to bring attention to sustainability and environmental issues around the world. In turn, Fisker will support the work of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.”
Unfortunately, the band went bankrupt in the following years.
He owns a white XC90 T8 Hybrid Volvo SUV, and has been seen cruising around in it in various L.A locations. The car still comes with a hefty price tag of around $70,000.
DiCaprio makes sure he does not miss out on speed where other cars may be lacking. He owns a Porsche Cayenne, which is a sports SUV that retails for around $74,000.
Perhaps the most eye-catching of DiCaprio’s collection is his Tesla Roadster, which retails for around $200,000.
This all-electric sports car was the first to use lithium-ion battery cells, and was the fastest electric car at the time of purchase.
After his purchase, he was invited by Elon Musk to work on a collaborative video project focusing on the effects of climate change.
Advocacy Against Climate Change
DiCaprio has always been an advocate for the environment, opting for eco-friendly panels on his house and splurging on environmentally friendly cars.
The actor even purchased an island off the coast of Belize to build an “eco-resort”. Blackadore Caye is described by DiCaprio as a “restorative island” which aims to mitigate the effects of overfishing and deforestation that the island has suffered from.
Yet, he has received backlash in the same wave for his use of private jets and yachts, which have a heavy carbon footprint.
DiCaprio is a huge F1 fan, often seen at Monaco Grand Prix races, and several other motor races. He even founded his own Formula E team with Venturi owners: Venturi Racing.
How Does He Finance His Expensive Taste?
DiCaprio is a hugely successful actor and has a net worth of approximately $260 million. He earns around $20 million per film, so these small, worthwhile investments in futuristic technology are affordable for him and are encouraging steps towards sustainable living.
