Left-handed people make up approximately 10% of the world’s population, but does Beyoncé happen to be a part of this group?
No, Beyoncé is not left-handed. The beloved singer and actress has many traits that set her apart from everyone else, but writing with her left hand isn’t one of the things that make her unique.
Beyoncé may not be a leftie, but she knows a couple people who are, and we can still learn a lot from her handwriting.
Beyoncé’s Handwriting
The fact that Beyoncé is right-handed doesn’t say much about her, but her handwriting certainly does. Back in 2012, she shared a heartfelt handwritten letter addressed to the former first lady Michelle Obama – whose husband just happens to be left-handed!
She described Obama as “the ultimate example of a truly strong African American woman”, but that wasn’t the only thing that caught people’s eye. Handwriting experts were quick to analyze Beyoncé’s penmanship and tell us what it reveals about her personality.
Sheila Kurtz from Scan My Handwriting told StyleCaster that her handwriting was “extraordinarily clear, rhythmic, meticulous, logical, and open” and added that she may be “somewhat secretive about private matters”. The Missing Ink author Philip Hensher analyzed the singer’s penmanship for The Guardian and described her as “a creative person”, but also added that her handwriting suggests that she’s “practical and highly efficient but dangerously speculative, with a focus on the world around her.”
Michelle Obama isn’t the only celebrity lucky enough to receive one of Beyoncé’s handwritten notes. The Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox performed Destiny Child’s “Lose My Breath” on Lip Sync Battle and later got a note from Queen Bey herself praising her flawless dance routine.
Blue Ivy Might Be Left-Handed
Beyoncé definitely isn’t left-handed, but there’s a chance that her daughter Blue Ivy Carter might be. Back in 2014, she accompanied her famous parents at the White House where they attended Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday party. The list of celebrity guests also included Mary J. Blige, Angela Bassett, and Samuel L. Jackson, and Queen Bey reportedly performed “Single Ladies” and “Irreplaceable” for those in attendance.
Blue Ivy enjoyed some kid-friendly activities at the party, and her mom shared several photos that showed her admiring the White House Christmas tree and hanging out with Sunny, the pet dog of the Obama family. Beyoncé’s daughter was also spotted doodling on a piece of paper at the party, and this photo sparked rumors that she might be left-handed.
Blue Ivy was only two at the time so it was still early to tell if she’s really left-handed or not, but it’s common for lefties to learn how to use both of their hands later in life. There have been suggestions that Blue Ivy inherited this trait from her dad Jay-Z, but judging by the photos that show him signing autographs, he’s right-handed just like his wife.
Left Handed Musicians
Beyoncé may not be a leftie, but if you’re looking for other left-handed musicians to look up to, you’ll never run out of inspiration. Lady Gaga, who collaborated with Queen Bey on the timeless hit “Telephone”, also happens to be left-handed. In addition to reaching no. 3 on Billboard Hot 100, the two singers also received a Grammy nomination for best pop collaboration with this song.
Miley Cyrus is another successful left-handed artist, but her dad taught her to play guitar with her right hand because he’s also a leftie and knows how hard it can be for a musician. Justin Bieber struggled with this issue when he started playing the guitar because he’s also a leftie, but his mom eventually bought him a left-handed model for his birthday. The list of left-handed musicians goes on, and it also includes “My Heart Will Go On” singer Celine Dion and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.
