Thanks to a better understanding of the human brain in recent years, and a resulting shift in the accepted societal norm, there are more left-handed people than ever. If you’re part of the leftie club, you might be wondering which of your favorite celebrities also share your unique quirk, like how about Jim Carrey?
Jim Carrey is not left-handed. As evidence, there are multiple photographs and recordings of him signing autographs, eating food, and performing other tasks by using his right hand.
Unfortunately for those of you hoping that Carrey might share some of your leftie magic, he’s right-handed. There are a lot of myths and misconceptions surrounding the idea of being left dominant, some of which could lead you down the path of wondering if Carrey really is a secret leftie.
The Evidence
If you listen to the various claims and statements flying around in the world of Twitter, you’ll notice that there have been more than a few people putting Carrey under the left-handed banner.
There are even articles online that add him to lists of famous left-handed people like they are picking a draft for a team. Unfortunately, however, there’s simply nothing to suggest that he’s a leftie.
Unless being ambidextrous is another addition to his list of talents, there’s a fair bit of evidence to support the fact that Carrey is right-handed. In this video of him signing things for fans, we see him breezing between each autograph with the practiced ease of someone who has been writing with their right hand for their entire life.
Sure, he might be right-handed or ambidextrous, but until there’s any evidence of it, or he makes a statement on it himself, then we’ll just have to take it at face value. Probably the closest he has ever come to being left-handed is playing southpaw boxer, Rocky Balboa, in the comedy sketch show In Living Color!
More Creative
One of the biggest myths about a left-hander is that they are somehow more creative than their right-handed counterparts. That would certainly apply to Carrey, whose zany and out-of-this-world antics as the colorful characters he has portrayed are nothing if not creative.
For a leftie, that might be explained by the fact that they are constantly having to navigate their way around a right-handed world and figure out a way to negotiate even a menial task. For Carrey though, his zaniness and out of the box thinking is just a product of his unique personality.
Whether that myth even has any substance to it is another story altogether, however. The brain is a complicated bit of machinery, and we’re still a little fuzzy on some of the details about the oddities of the human mind.
The Sinister Left-Handed Mind
Back when we were still living in caves and being amazed by the creation of fire, or at least when ideas were so backward that it almost felt neolithic, there was an assumption that being left-handed was an indicator of some sort of underlying psychotic illness.
Of course, that’s all nonsense. Though the man with the elastic face certainly does manage to look like he’s possessed by madness at times with the way he can contort and change his face.
We’re not sure where the people claiming Carrey’s left-handedness are getting their evidence from, but hopefully, it’s not from any of these myths or stereotypes!
Actually Left-Handed Celebrities
If you see it as a team game, there’s no need to slap the leftie sticker on your favorite celebrity, there’s still a plentiful list of famous people who are actually left-handed to take your pick from.
The man that a large part of the internet considers one of the nicest people in showbiz, Keanu Reeves, for starters. The man of Matrix and John Wick fame, just to name a few of his biggest movies, is a verified leftie, seen signing autographs with his left hand.
Really though, if you look at the list of right-handed and left-handed people in your own life, or at celebrities, you’ll quickly find that there’s no real pattern of greatness no matter what hand you are dominant with.
As for Carrey, we’re pretty sure that even if he was left-handed, he’d still be one of the funniest people to have graced our screens.
