Is the newly apparent US Presidential election candidate left handed? Or is he right handed like the majority of the population?
Kanye is right-handed – he writes with his right hand always, and pictures of him signing autographs proves this. However, some sources suggest that he used to be left handed, but his mother decided to teach him to write with his right hand when he was younger.

Was Kanye Originally Left Handed?
Left-handed people all over the world have always been a minority — generally, they only make up about 10 percent of the total population. That being said, many famous people and those who’ve left a mark in history have been left-handed.
This list also includes musicians like David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and Ringo Starr, so it is natural for Kanye West’s fans to wonder if he may be left handed as well. However, this does not seem to be the case; Kanye has always been seen signing autographs with his right hand.
Some sources do suggest that he was not always right-handed though – in an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian West reportedly spoke about how her husband Kanye used to be a left-hand writer, but his mother decided to teach him to use his right hand when he was in school.
Given how often Kanye seems to step out and sign autographs for fans, it is strange that he once asked Kim not to do so. Back when Kim was pregnant with North West and she and Kanye were not yet married, she spoke about how Kanye was teaching her to value her privacy more. She said, “My boyfriend [Kanye] has taught me a lot about privacy. I’m ready to be a little less open about some things, like my relationships. I’m realizing everyone doesn’t need to know everything. I’m shifting my priorities.” She added how she feels more selective now when it comes to signing autographs. “I just tell them [the fans], ‘Sorry, but my boyfriend won’t let me,’” she said.
Kanye Was an Impressive Artist in High School
Does learning to use his right hand have anything to do with how brilliant Kanye’s artwork was when he was in high school? It’s hard to say, but the artwork itself deserves an honorary mention. It was first brought to the public eye in 2020 when a collection of his was given rave reviews by art appraiser Laura Woolley, who belongs to the appraisal service Collector’s Lab in Los Angeles, and who appeared on the PBS show Antiques Roadshow to showcase Kanye’s work.
Wooley said the five drawings featured on the show were first at least $16,000 to $23,000! “What really attracted me to these pieces was the fact that a lot of people are probably not aware of how talented he is an artist outside his music career,” she said, adding, “These pieces demonstrate an extraordinary facility as an artist.”
The sketches in the portfolio included two portraits, a surreal drawing of a multi-eyed, horned figure in chains, and two landscapes – all done in graphite and gouache on scratchboard by a 17-year-old Kanye.
