Nicki Minaj has a great body and is always ahead of new trends. The star undoubtedly eats healthy, but does she eat vegan?
Nicki Minaj is not vegan. The star experiments with vegan food, but eats a varied diet including meat and animal products.
Nicki Loves Chicken
One of Nicki’s favorite foods is definitely chicken. The rap star has said that her favorite fast food chain is Popeyes, and that they are much better than KFC.
When Nicki cannot get Popeyes in Europe, she opts for a feast from Nando’s. In 2012 Nicki bought enough chicken to feed her entire crew, including 550 chicken legs and 300 chicken wings in a £3,000 order at a Nando’s location in London.
Nicki also loves the chicken foods she grew up with. She has said that her father makes the best curry chicken, and Nicki herself cooks the dish to follow his tradition.
In a 2015 interview Nicki said that her favorite food is curry chicken and roti. She followed her answer with “Shout out to my Trini’s,” a tribute to her fellow Trinidadians and Tobagonians.
Nicki’s Taste for Seafood
Another non-vegan food that Nicki enjoys is seafood. The singer used to work at multiple Red Lobster restaurants before becoming a world-famous rapper.
Nicki enjoyed a return to Red Lobster in 2019 with Jimmy Fallon. The singer ate their famous lobster and cheddar bay biscuits, and did a happy dance saying “so good!” when she got a taste of the lobster at 4:24:
Nicki may not know how to perfectly crack lobster shells, and Jimmy makes fun of her for this. However, Nicki is efficient and knows to go straight for the tail, which is easier to eat.
Nicki’s Sweet Tooth
Nicki loves many sweet treets, most of which are not vegan. Her favorite chocolates, Kit Kat bars and Twix bars, contain milk and are not vegan.
Another one of Nicki’s favorite desserts is not vegan, and actually not vegetarian. The rapper loves Rice Krispie Treats, which contain gelatin, or animal bone, and therefore are not vegetarian.
On the healthier side of treats, Nickie’s favorite fruit is mangos, which are vegan. Her favorite snack is strawberry banana yogurt, another non-vegan tasty treat.
Nicki Feeds Her Fans
Nicki frequently stops at Popeyes or Nando’s for herself when she is on the road. However, the star also makes a point to check in on her fans and make sure they are well fed.
Nicki’s Genius interview with journalist Rob Markman in front of a live audience was delayed by four hours, leaving many of her fans starving without dinner. Nicki interrupted her late interview to ask “are you guys hungry?”
Nicki’s fans replied with a resounding yes, so she immediately ordered them Domino’s pizza. Nicki prioritized her fans’ health and took it upon herself to feed them.
Nicki Experiments With Veganism
Nicki has tried some specialty vegan food in the past. In 2011 she ordered sesame soy chicken at an Atlanta vegan restaurant.
The restaurant where Nicki ate, Cafe Sunflower, proudly tweeted about the star’s visit and order. They are considered the one of the best vegan restaurants in Atlanta.
Nicki’s order of sesame soy chicken shows that the singer really does love chicken, but is also willing to try the vegan version. Vegan soy chicken is made from soy flour and given the flavor and texture of real chicken.
Nicki also stands with the vegan movement in her position against wearing fur. Vegetarians were elated when Nicki denounced fur fashion and said she would not wear real fur.
Nicki’s Vegan Connections
Although Nicki may not be vegan herself, some people from her personal circle are. Her music video director Nick Walker worked with Impossible Foods to create a promotional video for their vegan meat alternatives.
Nicki has ties to another notable vegan, but he is a person from her past. Nicki’s ex-boyfriend of 14 years, Safaree Samuels, went vegan in 2020.
Six years after their breakup, Nicki’s ex seems very happy with his new life and vegan diet. He went vegan with his new girlfriend, Erica Mena, and said the two are very happy and healthy together.
Nicki may not be vegan, but she does enjoy an occasional vegan treat. The star really loves her chicken and likely will not go vegan any time soon.
