Lady Gaga has been in the spotlight for so long that we know almost everything there is to know about her, but is her IQ score still a mystery?
There are no reliable sources confirming Lady Gaga’s IQ. The “Poker Face” singer never discussed this topic publicly, nor confirmed rumored IQ scores that have been attributed to her online.
No Reliable Sources
Lady Gaga’s IQ score is pretty difficult to trace down because she never felt the need to discuss it publicly. That didn’t stop people from making some pretty puzzling assumptions about her intelligence.
CelebrityIQs.com estimated the singer’s IQ at 166, but never explained how they came to this number. This information should be taken with a grain of salt since the disclaimer on their website reads “The IQ scores posted on this website are not guaranteed. They are for entertainment purposes only.”
IQ-test.net also tried to crack the mystery of Lady Gaga’s IQ but with little success. They reported it’s impossible to support claims that she has an IQ of 166, but suggested that it’s safe to assume that her score is somewhere around 135.
According to this website, there are a couple of signs that her IQ is above 130. In addition to being a gifted composer and an accomplished keyboardist, she also attended the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth – which brings us to her educational background.
Lady Gaga’s Education
Lady Gaga grew up in an upper-middle-class family, and her parents could afford to send her to a private school. She attended all-girls school the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan and described herself as a dedicated and disciplined student.
Lady Gaga didn’t quite fit in with her peers and was often bullied during her high school years. She told The Sunday Project that this experience “has taught me the importance of spreading kindness in the world because I think it’s something that we can fix.”
It’s been reported that Lady Gaga also attended the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. This little detail made people believe that her IQ could truly be as high as the questionable online sources claim since it’s not that easy to get into this center.
According to CTY’s official website, this program is “dedicated to identifying and developing the talents of academically advanced pre-college students around the world.” The list of its high-profile alumni also includes Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, and the Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Ronan Farrow.
It’s unclear how participation in this program affected Lady Gaga because music always came first for her.
She started attending a music school Collaborative Arts Project 21 at 17 but dropped out two years later to focus on her career. Her college experience wasn’t a pleasant one, and some of her classmates reportedly started a Facebook group called “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous.”
IQ Scores and Music
IQ-test.net suggested that Lady Gaga’s musical abilities hint at a high IQ score, and they may be onto something. Several studies have suggested there’s a connection between IQ and musical skills because learning music requires intelligence and focus.
Psychologist Glenn Schellenberg extensively researched this topic, and published a paper titled “Music Lessons Enhance IQ”. His team studied 144 children who were assigned to four different groups – piano lessons, singing lessons, drama lessons, and no lessons.
Kids in musical groups showed the biggest progress, and their IQ score jumped by an average of seven points. Other factors may have impacted the increase in their IQ, but Schellenberg’s study suggested that music lessons can be great intellectual stimulation.
Lady Gaga perfectly proves this point. She started playing the piano at an early age and learned all the classics – from Beethoven and Mozart to Bach and Chopin. The Grammy-winning artist was only four when she started taking piano lessons and still plays this instrument like a pro.
