Ruffalo’ing A Few Feathers
One of Mark Ruffalo’s key attributes is his ability to speak his mind. He’s well known for being outspoken on a number of political or controversial topics.
In truth, he’s quite the activist and has strong opinions in many important areas.
In recent years, he’s been documented on numerous occasions speaking out about sensitive topics.
He’s pro-choice, and supports the LGBT community, and speaks out for the underprivileged. He’s also supported minority groups, and the black community in the past.
In 2017, he took to Twitter to fire a message at NBC. In the tweet, he demanded that they ceased the constant hiring of white conservative commentators. He has also shown his support for Native populations within America.
He’s also been involved in politics, both in the United States and the United Kingdom. In 2019, he voiced his advocacy for Bernie Sanders, and also Jeremy Corbyn.
He described the latter as a ‘beacon of hope in the struggle against emergent far-right nationalism, xenophobia and racism.’
According to websites that study astrology, it may be Ruffalo’s zodiac sign that contributes to these behaviors. He’s a Sagittarius, having been born towards the end of November.
They’re described as being independent, exciting, and honest.
As one website details, a male Sagittarius is “a straight shooter who speaks his mind”.
It goes on to explain that they can “sometimes be seen as too aggressive or impatient by those who prefer a more subtle approach to life.” These lines describe Ruffalo perfectly.
His political agenda is probably his strongest. In 2016, he worked on an audiobook titled “Our Revolution: A Future To Believe In.”
This book was written by Bernie Sanders, and the pair both gave their voices to the audio production. For his work on the audiobook, Ruffalo was nominated for a Grammy.
Mark In The Movies
While Mark Ruffalo’s career began way back in 1989, he would start gaining real recognition until the mid-2000s.
He appeared in several minor roles through the nineties, but never really hit the big time. He was a good actor but struggled to get those leading roles.
In 2007, he started appearing in some better-known titles and roles. He worked alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr in a movie, Zodiac.
From then on out, the offers would come pouring in. He’d appeared in a few productions each year since starting out, but now the more prestigious roles were cropping up.
In 2010, Ruffalo appeared in The Kids Are All Right. Although the film was a limited release, it was critically acclaimed. The production received overwhelmingly positive feedback, and Ruffalo was nominated for a string of awards, including an Academy Award, and a BAFTA.
This was one of the key turning points of his career.
Ruffalo would go on to receive a further two Academy Award nominations in the following years. One was in 2014, for Best Supporting Actor in Foxcatcher.
The second would come the year after, and was the same award, but this time for Spotlight.
All his work thus far in the industry was almost dwarfed in 2012. Ruffalo was cast as Bruce Banner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This was an incredibly prestigious role, with the MCU arguably forming the most adored franchise and saga in movie history. It was a series of twenty-three movies over ten years, building up to one epic finale.
Bruce Banner, otherwise known as the Hulk, would come to be a pivotal character in the franchise. Ruffalo played the character to perfection in five movies and became a fan favorite.
There was no role he’d done up to that point that afforded him the level of exposure he received.
He also proved to be a versatile actor, working just as well in drama as in comedy. In 2017’s Thor Ragnarok, he provided many laughs and showed a funny side to a character that had – until that point – been sullen.
