Grammy-nominee Luke Combs is well established for being a country music artist and has released six albums since launching his music career back in 2014, but what was his first song?
Luke Combs’ first song was ‘The Way She Rides ’ which was released in 2014 as part of his first extended play (EP). His first EP contains three songs totaling 9 minutes and 19 seconds, including ‘The Way She Rides,’ ‘I Know She Ain’t Ready,’ and ‘Let The Moonshine.’
Read more below about how Combs took the industry by storm with his songs and albums.
The Rise of Luke Combs
Before he shot to fame, Combs was your typical average guy making covers of country music on YouTube, but come 2014, and that all changed.
2014 marks the first year in which Combs was active in his musical career, releasing his first EP The Way She Rides released under his own self-named label, Luke Combs. Unfortunately, this EP wasn’t much of a success in the charts as it didn’t manage to top the charts in any country.
It wasn’t until a year later in November of 2015 that Combs topped the charts with his third EP and first studio album, This One’s For You. Released under the Columbia Nashville label in 2017, the album topped the charts at number one, while the EP version topped the US country music chart at number 24.
If you ask me, it’s unsurprising that his first studio album topped the charts at number one with how melodic some of the songs in the album are. The album received multi-platinum awards and sold 573,900 copies in the US.
Just two short years later, in 2019, Combs released his second studio album What You See Is What You Get, under the record label Columbia Nashville.
Similarly to his first album, this one topped the US charts at number one. In contrast, his second album ranked 23 places higher than his EP on the US Country charts, coming in at number one, and it received gold certification awards.
Unlike his first album, Combs’ second album didn’t sell as well, though it did sell an impressive 232,500 copies in the US upon release.
Combs’ first EP to top the US Country chart at number one was his fourth EP released under Columbia Nashville, given the title The Prequel. Composed of five songs, the EP is almost 17 minutes long, and it sold 42,200 copies in the US upon its release.
Combs’ Nominations
As of 2020, Combs has been nominated for 12 awards, including a Grammy nomination for the Best New Actor. Of the 12 nominations, Combs has won nine awards – now that’s something to be proud of since he hasn’t been in the industry for too long.
Some awards Combs has won include New Country Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Top Country Artist, and Male Vocalist of the Year, amongst others.
First Number 1 As A Songwriter
Combs revealed in a Tweet that his motivations to sing in the country music genre all stemmed from his songwriting passion. His cover of ‘I Hope You’re Happy Now’ became Combs’ first number one as a songwriter after spending over 30 weeks on the charts.
Of the song, Combs said, “I feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with someone as talented as Lee, and I will always hold this song dear to my heart.”
From releasing his first song to six albums later, it’s clear Combs has so much more to offer the world, and he’s very committed to producing music his fans like.
