Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are a famous celebrity couple who have been steadily married since 1997. However, little is known about their actual wedding. This leads to the question: Where did Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith get married?
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith tied the knot in a private ceremony on New Year’s Eve in 1997 at the Cloisters Castle in Baltimore, Jada’s hometown. They have been married ever since their secretive wedding, during which Jada was already three months pregnant with their son Jaden.
Read more about where Will and Jada got married and how they have kept up their marriage amid constant relationship rumours.
A secret wedding
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett first met in 1994 when Jada auditioned to play Smith’s on-screen girlfriend on the show ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.’
And while Jada didn’t get the role on the show, Will and Jada nonetheless ended up becoming a couple.
Shortly after Will divorced his first wife, Sheree Fletcher, Will and Jada got engaged in 1996.
Speaking about the early days of their relationship, Jada confessed: ‘One day we got engaged, and the next day we found out we were pregnant.’
The two tied the knot in 1997 in a secretive wedding ceremony about which not much is known until today.
It is however known that they wed in the last hours of New Years Eve in 1997 at Cloisters Castle in Baltimore, which is Jada’s hometown.
They had a small wedding, which was only attended by their closest friends and family.
In an 2018 episode of her Facebook show ‘Red Table Talk’, Jada revealed the reason why their wedding was so private.
She said that at the time of her wedding she was three months pregnant already with the couple’s son Jaden.
She also candidly admitted that due to her pregnancy she wasn’t feeling well and remembered that she ‘went down crying the freaking aisle.’
Shortly after Jaden’s birth in 1998, Jada fell pregnant again and gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Willow, in 2000.
And beside having two children on their own, Jada and Will are also a patchwork family by including Will’s son from his first marriage, Trey.
Marriage Rumours
While they have had an enduring marriage ever since exchanging their vows, there have been many rumours about Will and Jada Smith’s relationship over the years.
Addressing the rumours, Jada explained on her show ‘Red Table Talk’ that Will and her have always had a stable relationship.
The secret to their union, she said, is that they have always been committed to openly communicating and working through whatever is on their mind.
Similarly, Will put all rumours about his and Jada’s relationship to rest when he appeared on ‘The Ellen Show’ in 2008, the same year that Jada and him celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary.
Will spoke candidly about their marriage, and explained how divorce has never been an option for the couple.
He said: ‘What I found is divorce just can’t be an option. It’s really that simple. And I think that’s the problem with L.A. – there are so many options. So a huge part of the success for [Jada] and I is that we just removed the other options.’
Rejecting divorce as an option to end the marriage and remaining dedicated to communicating openly may be the secret to Jada and Will’s marriage, which has lasted since their secretive wedding in 1997.
And while the couple has always remained coy about their actual wedding service, one can say that having been married for as long as Jada and Will, the length of their relationship is a testament to the stability of their union, regardless of any rumours.
