With the brain that came up with one of the most successful companies in the world, Amazon, you can’t help but wonder what Jeff Bezos eats and what his favorite food is.
It’s believed that Jeff Bezos’ favorite food is Thai food. Thai cuisine is the dishes that come from the country of Thailand. They are often characterized by being lightly cooked, spicy, and their use of aromatic herbs. Jeff Bezos has also been known to have very adventurous taste buds. He has eaten dishes that include insects.
You can read more below about what dishes are in Thai cuisine, as well as other foods Bezos has been seen indulging in before.
What Is Thai Food?
As mentioned above, Thai food comes from the Southeast Asian country known as Thailand.
It is also the favorite of Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos. Although many people think that Thai food is deep-fried, stir-fry, or steamed dishes, those are all characteristics of Chinese cuisine on Thai. Thai dishes focus on light cooking.
As Thai food veteran and chef, David Thompson, put it “Thai food ain’t about simplicity. It’s about the juggling of disparate elements to create a harmonious finish. Like a complex musical chord, it’s got to have a smooth surface but it doesn’t matter what’s happening underneath.”
Thai dishes are generally split into four different sections. They would be boiled dishes, spicy salads, pounded foods, and curries. Some examples of Thai dishes that you may have tried yourself are pad Thai, tom yam goong, green curry, massaman curry, Thai glass noodle salad, mu nam tok, and Thai fried rice.
In 2019, CNN Travel ranked Thailand as number 8 on its list of Which Country Has the Best Food?

Warning though, you might get a little grossed out by it.
Jeff Bezos Eats Bugs
If you know anything about Thai cuisine, you know that insects are a very popular dish among locals. More adventurous tourists to Thailand often try the dishes that use bugs if they find themselves on the super popular Khao San Road in Bangkok.
Since Jeff Bezos is a big Thai food lover, it doesn’t seem all that shocking that he has eaten bugs before. He didn’t do so in Thailand though.
In 2014, while attending The Explorers Club’s annual dinner, Jeff Bezos was spotted eating a cockroach. You read that correctly: a cockroach. Bezos is a reported member of the famous club that was founded in 1904 by Henry Collins Walsh.
The mission of The Explorers Club was “to form an organization to unite explorers in the bonds of good fellowship and to promote the work of exploration by every means in its power.”
With his efforts with his company Blue Origin and space exploration, it sounds like Bezos fits right in.
Bezos Eats Lizard Meat Too
Bezos hasn’t only eaten cockroach through The Explorers Club annual meetings. In 2018, he attended the yearly gathering at the Waldorf Astoria and was pictured eating iguana.
Some people might be a little freaked out by the notion of eating lizard meat, but it was for a good reason.
As was put in this Gizmodo article “Fixing problems on our home planet has inspired one of the dinner’s most notable features. Each year, a master chef cooks up a menu comprised of invasive species to highlight ways in which our diets could be more sustainable. This go-round featured tarantula, cockroach and roasted iguana.”
While iguana is not something that is eaten in Thailand, it has become a dish in Puerto Rico where the green lizard is running amuck.
The species has also made its way into Florida where it is becoming a big problem. However, it wasn’t a problem at all for Bezos to try eating the green monster.
